Summary: It's simple. Chicago gets their man along with a very nice complimentary player in Odom to form a solid front court to go with their solid guards. As a bonus they also get Pau's younger brother. They sacrifice some youth here, but they also unload Wallace. I would think Chicago would become a top 4 team in the East with this lineup, and we all know what can happen in the East come playoff time. I would think Chicago would have to do this deal.

Summary: The Grizzlies definitely lose some talent here, but if you break it down they are getting the first back that they gave up for JCN. At that point it becomes Gasol/Miller/salary dump for Gordon/Thomas/Noah. Speaking of salary dump, even Philadelphia will be jealous of Memphis' cap situation if they do this deal. Usually Memphis isn't a free agent player, but there will be a lot of big names available this off season, and if this trade goes down their choices will be stay where they are, Philly, Memphis, or a huge pay cut. I gotta think Memphis could convince a big name to come. Plus this trade will prevent any 2nd half hot streak that could hurt their position in the draft.

Summary: I skipped the depth chart here, basically Cleveland moves an expiring for a good starting PG, which they desperately need.




So this trade is on the big side, but I trimmed the fat to the point that I feel it is realistic, and really the Cleveland, Memphis part could be seperated making it a 3 team deal. I feel every team accomplishes goals that help move them in the direction that they need to head. So what does everybody else think?

Good deal, Memphis SHOULD do it, but the WOULDN'T do it. They believe there more value for Gasol, but really get expiring contracts, unprotected first round picks, two rookie contract bigs and a scoring G should help.

Not sure about Chicago getting both Gasol and Odom in this deal. Also, not sure if Memphis would want both Noah and Tyrus...seems a bit redundant. Maybe another draft pick Memphis's way? Not terrible though IMO.

I see the point, but Odom can play the 3/4 and Gasol the 4/5, therefore I think they can co-exist just fine. Basically the same thing goes for the Memphis part although they do overlap more, but when dealing with prospects that isn't as bad. Including Milic it gives them 3 very nice prospects to develop at the 4/5.

This does seem to be a pretty fair trade for all concerned that fills the needs of each team that is involved...

I'm not sure that the Lakers would do this though... only because they have shown to be one of the better teams in the West....and might not want to change anything that is working....JMO

But good effort nonetheless!

Why is Cleveland is this deal. MEM and CLE can just do their Stoudamire for Newble swap separately.

OK, I am with you now. The value is pretty good for CHI. Keep in mind though that the dump of Wallace is offset by taking on Vladrad and Brian Cardinal. They also part with Joe Smith who is having a very nice year. The trade favors the Bulls in my opinion, also the Lakers do well value wise. They both (Chicago more so) take advantage of Memphis' loss of talent, but I don't see how Memphis could say no to this kind of "cap paradise", not to mention they also get good prospects.

The problem with "cap paradise" for Memphis though, is can they actually get FA's to come play there? If not, cap space is pretty irrelevent. Now if you have the cap space and some additional draft picks, then I think they definitely bite.

MIN would gladly take Noah, and convert him into some other youth/pick combination that MEM would like.

The Bulls make out like bandits. With Gasol and Odom and Navarro they would likely turn it around which then makes that "Unprotected 08 first" really not that big a deal. I mean we are going on the assumption that the Bulls actually do get better right? If so then they basically will get Gasol for the equivalent of Noah, Thomas, Joe Smith, Ben Wallace and a mediocre 1st (I'm assuming Gordon and Odom have about the same value). That's a steal in my book.

As I posted earlier, and as everyone already knows, this off season has an abnormal amount of talent available, but most teams are in a rough cap position. As far as I can tell Memphis would only have to compete with Philadelphia and each players' current team to get any free agent demanding $12 million or more a year. I really think that Memphis would be very attractive to free agents under that scenario. The best part though is that if you don't find anyone that you think is worth the money, then you can save a whole lot of money, secure another top 5 pick, and still have the ability to offer a max deal to somebody in 09. Fans may hate that latter plan, but owners love to save money, especially small market owners.

I am a Lakers fan by the way, and right now our only center is Kwame, also keep in mind that Swift can play some center, and we still have Turiaf. Are you saying that Big Ben is a downgrade from Kwame (who at last check is due for an injury in about 5 minutes)? I know Big Ben is playing poorly, but are you serious?

As far as Kobe at SF I am really struggling to see the problem with that, not to mention that anytime Miller is on the bench he would roll back to SG if Kobe is still in the game. I think Kobe at SF would allow him to get the ball in the post more often, and he could many times kick it out to a wide open Miller (who last time I checked is a great 3 point threat).

Sportsfan 215, as much as I love getting Deng, that deal leaves us far too weak at PF/C. I do not want Wallace starting after Bynum is healthy, and we already have SF depth, we need to get Joe Smith back if we are trading away Odom. Also I like getting Miller back because then we are giving Vujacic'c minutes to him at SG, instead of giving away even more of Ariza's time as Deng can't play SG. Of course I would still prefer Deng even taking into consideration that fact, but not at the cost of not getting Miller and Joe Smith and giving up a first on top of it. The value is similar, but it doesn't fit our team as well.

#1 I am a Lakers fan from Columbus, Ohio.

#2 that is an incredible rebuilding package, this may come a s a shock to you, but small market owners love to either save money or have a great team.

#3 with this trade next year Memphis will be either very good ( if they get a big name free agent to come ), or they will save a ton of money if every single worthwhile free agent says no. Either way Memphis' owner wins big time.

#4 without this trade Memphis pays a lot of money to finish with maybe the 8th worst record in the league. With it they probably finish with a top 5 pick (because as bad as they are now this does make them worse), also a pick in the 18-25 range, and an extra 20-30 million in cap space.

#5 if Gasol and Miller are worth more than the #4 pick in the draft from 2 years ago, the #9 pick from this past draft, and Ben Gordon, then why is Memphis so bad? Oh and you drop Brian Cardinal in the process which has to be worth something.

#6 how do you expect to get a better package than this?

Stoudamire isn't exactly a "good PG". We'd be better off keeping Newble's expiring. And no way we help the Bulls get Gasol.
