Gooden, Marshall
4
Kwame, Sasha
This deal would be right near the trade deadline as they have to get as many minutes from Brown before getting Andrew back. The Cavs get out of some deals and get cap space (which they need) and the Lakers get a PF and backup PF who both expire after next season, when they have to pay Bynum and Farmar. Plus, with Varejo's development they can play him at the four and not lose a beat.

Look, Cleveland if FOR SURE going over the tax next year if they don't dump payroll quick. This way, they get expiring deals.

Show me a link where it says the Cavs are concerned about the lux tax. Gooden's deal expires in 2009, and this definitly wouldn't please Lebron. The only way this works is if it's to get us Bibby.

Cleveland has a cap hit of 75 million next year, and the league has said it doesn't plan to raise the cap that much. Cleveland would still have to sign two more players.

One line? It didn't even elaboarate. Isn't this just some poster for AOL? Do you have anything where Ferry or Gilbert said they are avoiding the lux. tax?

Gooden, for all his flaws, is still a pretty valuable basketball player. He's still their starting PF...you don't give those guys away to get under the tax.
(At worst, you trade picks with bench players, a la Kurt Thomas, and even that is rare.)

This deal also helps them get more money to sign Gibson.
