WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HEAT:
They off-load Shaq's bloated contract and get back a package of expiring deals and young talent. Sean Williams is an athletic big man with great shot blocking skills. He would be a good piece to compliment Wade in the Heat's new era. They also get a 1st round pick to aid in the youth movement.

PG-Cassell/Williams
SG-Wade/Cook
SF-Wright/Davis
PF-Haslem/Barron
C-Williams/Magloire/Collins

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE NETS:
They go for it all with this move. A quartet of Kidd, Maggs, RJ, and Shaq would make NJ a serious threat for the Eastern crown. O'Neal is from the area, so it would make sense for him to end his career as a net.
NETS LINE-UP:
PG-Kidd/Armstrong/Williams
SG-Maggs/Wright
SF-Jefferson/Nachbar
PF-Kristic/Boone
C-O'Neal/Allen

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE CLIPPS:
They get some star power with the addition of Carter. When Brand finally returns healthy, the Clipps would have a formidable combo to work with.

PF-Brand/Williams

No way the Heat take that crap for Shaq! It's funny how quickly people forget how Shaq carried the Heat to the playoffs last season with Wade out!

I probably would need the pick from New Jersey, but as a fellow Heat fan of mine would say - run it!

We'd have enough cap room to sign a max free agent (as we'd only have $40 million committed for next season), our own lottery pick, Sean Williams, and we'd be able to send New Jersey's pick to Minnesota to satisfy the ill-fated Ricky Davis trade.

Edit: We also save $4.5834 million on the season, helping Riley accomplish his goal of getting under the tax thresh hold. We could deal J-Will to Golden State for Pietrus and their TPE and end up exactly where we want to be...

I like the trade for Miami but I doubt the trade to happen because Riley is not going to trade Shaq. Riley is so attach to his star players.

I don't think you can do that. You didn't have the rights to that NJ pick when you made the Minny deal, so you can't use it afterwards to satisfy the obligation. Miami traded the rights to their OWN pick, lotto-protected, to Minnesota, not the rights to whatever-pick-they-might-end-up-acquiring.

(Unless, of course, Minny decides they want a pick this year and trades the Miami pick rights back to the Heat for the NJ pick. But I doubt that happens either.)

That is entirely possible

My guess is that the rule that I'm assuming is in place is there precisely to prevent what you're suggesting the Heat do. The Wolves have a shot at a pretty good pick from Miami, even if it's not this year...I think they would be pretty choked if, say, Miami were allowed to go out and just buy a pick from Phoenix and say "here, have the 29th pick, now go away" after the fact. (I know Phoenix doesn't have their pick this year, but you get my meaning.) If that were allowed, I'm assuming the Knicks would have used that provision to get out of the Jazz pick-debt a long time ago.

Again, this is purely assumption on my part...anyone have a link that confirms or denies?

I just posed the question on the CBA board. We'll see what they have to say.
