Minnesota Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: -0.5 ppg, -0.1 rpg, and -0.6 apg.
Incoming Players
Ime Udoka
6-5 SG / SF from Portland State
4.3 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 0.6 apg in 12.7 minutes
Outgoing Players
Gerald Green
6-8 SF / SG from Gulf Shores Academy (HS)
4.8 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 1.2 apg in 11.9 minutes
Wolves also get our first round pick this year along with our 2nd round pick.
Why for Minny well unless I am mistaken Green isn't considered a part of their future with Brewer and McCants pegged to be their shooting guards. They get picks which are always welcomed to a team that is rebuliding and perhaps they can move use it or trade it along with their pick if they aren't lucky in the draft to move up in the draft and get the player they need or want. They get a cheap defender to accent McCants offensive abilities with Udoka.
Why for SA, they need an ejection of youth and replacement for our aging wing players. Pop has been interested in youthful and pardon the pun green players. A JR Smith for Brent Barry trade 2 years ago was in the works but the paperwork wasn't finalized and reached the NBA for approval 15 mins too late.
Caveats... perhaps Minny doesn't want trade Green until after the season is over in order to facilitate(sign and trade) a megadeal. He is a free agent he sign with another team this offseason and the Spurs would basically be giving away a 1st round pick.
I am not sure if Green is worth more than a 1st round pick at this point in time but he has what everyone wants and that is potential to get better. Any thoughts and comments are welcomed.

1st off, whats up TD, havent seen much of you since you were interim Mod for the Wolves board.
2ndly, If this is an offer that would truly be on the table. I would explode. Green for Udoka+1st+2nd? I would jump all over that. I have always been a fan of Udoka's hustle game and a vet like him could really help the overall scheme of things.
I dont see Green wanting to be in Minnesota after this season anyway. If we cant somehow involve Green in a bigger deal before the deadline, I would do this without much hesitation.

I thought Udoka will be the next Spurs perimeter defender ala Bowen....So, why Spurs trading him? Not a fit?

Being that your pick will likely be higher than 28th it does not carry much value, but it does help.
Udoka does not have much value for us, he would be trying to take Brewer's minutes/roll.
Vaughn+pick for Green would be nice, but Vaughn has the goofy trade approval thing and I doubt he does it.

cannot really blame him.
I honestly think Tiago Splitter would have extreme value for the wolves. I would like to include him. Even at the possible expense of the draft pick.
How about Madsen+Green for Elson+udoka+rights to Splitter (and the draft pick if you really do not care. MN can exchange it's 2nd rd pick just so you do not have a guarenteed contract, they will be 4 slots apart anyway)
Madsen is far more effective on a playoff team then on a struggling team. And this way the contracts work. Elson would be an expiring for us and Idoka has a small 1 yr deal and could be moved/cut

Green is playing 12 min per.
Udoka is playing nearly 13 per.
I dont really see him digging much into Brew's minutes. I like that we add a vet. And picks (although of low value) can be packaged with young players to acquire higher picks.
Id do it.

i meant if he is seeing ID as the "defender to match with Shad"
I would do this also if we did not have another deal in the work. I do like Tiago.

I honestly don't think Green's worth the risk. He'll give them some scoring and athleticism off the bench (if he'll get any minutes under Pops, that is), but his lack of bball IQ will kill his chance to even make the team.

I'd do that first deal in a heartbeat but I dont think Green would be Pop's kind of player. If MN could get picks for him though...even if they're the last picks in each round, it seems like a no-brainer as Green is unlikely to return next season.

I think this is a clever trade. It would be interesting to see what a class organization like the Spurs could do with a guy with the athletic tools of Gerald Green. It would be a gamble for them, but if it didn't work out, they still save a mil next year.
I'd do the deal with the pick, or as rev wisely mentioned, Tiago Splitter. I haven't heard much about him since he was discussed so much pre-draft the last two years, but if the Spurs picked him, they have that air of invincibility that just makes me trust their foreign picks.

1. No need for the Spurs to give up a first and a 2nd picks for Green, one first or two seconds would do it. He is a FA after this year & the Spurs could just make him an offer without giving Minny anything.
2. We are definitly not giving up Splitter for Green. Splitter is pretty much a lock to be in a Spurs uni next season. With Oberto, Elson & Horry all becoming FA's this summer, we are going to need some bigs.
3. The Spurs will not take on Madsens contract...I dont care if its "only" $5.4 mil for the 2 seasons after this one...it would screw up our cap plans & we are definilty not screwing them up for Mark Madsen of all people.

That's just horrible for Spurs.
Green won't help them this year and is an unrestricted free agent this summer. If Spurs like him, which I doubt, they can just sign him this summer without giving up a first round pick for him.
Even without the pick, it's a bad trade for Spurs because Udoka is a better player right now than Green.

Without a second thought for the Wolves. Why for the Spurs, though? Pop would kill Green before he has a chance to demonstrate his only worth in the dunk contest.

even though the picks won't be very high?

I don't see Green as a big impact player for the Spurs this year, and they can probably land him pretty easily next year in FA if they still want him. I don't see any real benefit to doing this for the Spurs.

That makes sense.

That makes sense too .. thanks for the update. I haven't heard much about Splitter lately -- I'm still living off all the draftexpress info.

I love the Original trade for both teams...but I think it would work without the 2nd involved...Green for Udoka and 1st is fine for the Wolves...We're really interested in getting a late pick where we could maybe find a decent center...Right now the Spurs are 5th in the division and the pick is looking unusually high as far as Spurs picks go.
Green is a very hard worker and his jumper is a thing of beauty. I believe that if Pop got his hands on Green, they'd be a perfect match. Pop would teach him things that only Pop knows and Green has the work ethic to get those things done. I don't even care if we're feeding the rich, it still helps both teams in the long run.

Well granted look at what time I thought of the trade...so don't think too much into it.
Let me address some points...
I don't think the Spurs would entertain the thought of trading Splitter. They picked him knowing that he would not play this year.
I am kinda looking long term in this trade seeing that both Barry and Finley might not be in a Spurs uni given that they are close to retirement age and both are FA's. I think if you just ask Green to be a spot up shooter he would be a much more effective player.
I don't see us really valuing our draft picks unless we have someone that we are really high on and him just dropping to us. Unless we go international... we suck at the draft with college players. I just don't see anyone that would be around our draft pick that we would be interested in.
I do like the idea of having a project and we need mean Pop. He doesn't have anyone to yell at now that Beno is gone. I don't think he has gotten one ejection all season long. Everything is too hunky dorey. Has Green really had a taskmaster while in the NBA? I don't think so. With some players it fosters them to become a better player and reach their potential( aka Parker) but other it will kill their confidence to play ( aka Beno).
Udoka has been a decent player and I would like to keep him but the salaries have to match and Jacque would have to turn down his option (1.2 mil)for him to be traded and I don't see that happening.

Yeah... been busy with several boards but I will make it a point to visit more often. I am actually very interested in how Jefferson is playing and the whole Lotto situation. Do the Wolves think he is a 4 or 5? Do they draft best talent... Beasley or need Jordan. Do they go out and get the next Jason Kidd in Rose even if you were thinking that Randy Foye was the point guard of the future. It is actually very interesting.

Green seems fragile as hell. A week under Pop and he actually does become the next T-Mac, prima donna breakdown style.
Jefferson is obviously a 4, and the need for a 5 is glaring. Word from Wittman this week is that Foye will split his time 50/50 PG/SG - looks like they don't know let which guard spot is filled for the future.
