If the Cavs can't get Bibby would they consider getting an whole new back court. I was think of Sam Cassell and Cuttino Mobley for Larry Hughes and some fillers or maybe fillers from both sides.

Quinton Ross
6-6 SG from Southern Methodist
4.4 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.1 apg in 20.6 minutes
Tim Thomas
6-10 SF / PF from Villanova
12.9 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 3.0 apg in 32.0 minutes
Sam Cassell
6-3 PG from Florida State
12.2 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 4.3 apg in 24.2 minutes
Cuttino Mobley
6-4 SG from Rhode Island
12.7 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.8 apg in 32.9 minutes

for

Donyell Marshall
6-9 SF / PF from Connecticut
2.5 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 1.0 apg in 10.9 minutes
Eric Snow
6-3 PG from Michigan State
0.9 ppg, 0.9 rpg, 1.8 apg in 12.0 minutes
Larry Hughes
6-5 SG from St. Louis
9.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 2.2 apg in 28.0 minutes

Cleveland
SF:James/Ross/Newble
PF:Gooden/Thomas/Simmons
C:Ilgauskas/Varejao
SG:Mobley/Pavlovic/D. Brown/S. Brown
PG:Cassell/Gibson/Jones

LA Clippers
SF:Thornton/Marshall
PF:Powell
C:Kaman/Davis
SG:Hughes
PG:Knight/Livingston/Snow

Looks thin but thats only if Maggette and Brand. On top of that it would be better for them to get rid of the contract as well because they could pick up some players in the offseason(i.e. Ben Gordon, Loul Deng, or Andre Iguodala take you pick.

Why would the clippers do that trade? Do they really want an injury prone Larry Hughes and his contract?

I can see the incentive to dump Mobley's contract but a Gooden/Thomas swap should be included to even things out. It's surprisingly not a bad deal then.

Cassell+Mobley+Thomas

for

Hughes+Gooden

I think that works at least, mighta made a mistake somewhere. There's an argument that having Mobley+Thomas is just like having Hughes anyway though so if Cleveland feels that way, deal's off.

And yeah, Trade Board, totally.

LOL, the trade would never work in real life.

Adding Gooden makes the deal lopsided in the Clippers favor.

Mobley and Thomas add nothing to the CAVs while Cassel is a shadow of his former self, but his expiring is the only attraction which isn't that much to the CAVs considering how far they are into luxury tax land.

Wrong. Mobley and Thomas are both performing better than Hughes, so they add plenty. They both add shooting to a team that needs it, too.

And you're wrong about Cassell, too. Assuming the tax level stays the same next year, even the adjusted (i.e. with Gooden) deal costs them $3.37M this year, but saves them $10M next year. That's a big impact.

Mobley and TT would be superb for Cleveland

Wow. Mobley and Thomas playing marginally better than Hughes justifies this trade along with inflated savings --- that will put the CAVs on the road to being a championship team by doing a deal to deplete their front court by trading Gooden.

The only positive you have for Cassell is that he will save the CAVs some
money like that helps the CAVs now or that much or in the future on the cap. This deal should be AK47 to the Clippers for that care package.

Performing better at this time for the Clippers is not equal to being that useful to the CAVs. Neither Thomas or Mobley play much defense and the shooting they are adding are marginal given their stats are for a bad team where you are over rating offensive raw stats. Cassel is 38 years old complainer and the CAVs already had egos like that on their team that added little which is what Cassel would add to the CAVs. Numbers on a bad team can be deceiving kind of like your post. Neither Thomas or Mobley were that useful in the past.

What playoff team trades for second string players and gives up starters -- Mobley, Thomas and even Cassell start by default because there is no one to challenge them for playing time. Given salary growth by players already on the CAVs roster makes the 10M number a very generous one to justify this trade instead of fit and real usefulness to the CAVs. The CAVs are a defensive orientated team where non of the players coming from the Clippers qualify as.

And thats because these guys play hard defense, give good effort every night and have no problem playing inconsistent minutes. Wait a minute, these guys would be HORRIBLE.

Who says Mobley and TT play that good of defense -- wait no one other than a hard core Clippers fan. PLaying inconsistent minutes makes them valuable how when not even their own coach can not find a steady spot in his rotation for them and that qualifies them as a bargain for the CAVs.
