DALLAS: Diop, Ager for Doleac, Garcia (obtained w/ TE)
Dallas moves the underused Diop for Garcia, who would fit in well at the 2. Jones has been playing decent there, but he is a dinosaur and will probably keep getting hurt.
SACRAMENTO: Garcia for Smith
The Kings get a quality young pf and get rid of the logjam at the 2/3.
MINNESOTA: Smith, Doleac for Diop, Ager
Diop gives Minny a legit center so Jefferson can move back to the 4.

MIN would probably do that.

No, he's expiring. I guess that could present a problem if there's a big market for him.

I guess after this, we immediatly waive Doleac and sign Chris Webber?

I see no reason for the Wolves to go after UFA Diop at this time.

Not bad, I think Smith could do well in Sacramento behind Moore (until his contract expires) and Garcia could be the #2 scoring option in MN.

Who assumes back up c time for mavs, and do not tell me Dirk?

Without Diop's extension, I guess MIN's going to pass then. I'm not sure I'd want to inherit the guaranteed contract of Ager at this point, and MIN has no reason to rent Diop since they have no dreams of contention this year.
I agree with you that Diop would be a nice fit, but even if he played well here, all he'd do is raise his value and make it harder for MIN to acquire him next season.

While I wouldnt mind having someone like Smith, I rather keep Garcia. He has showed a lot this season and if Artest leaves then we have someone who could either start of back up Salmons.

I hate to see Garcia go, but you gotta give to get. Smith would give us much needed depth at PF.

For Garcia I wouldn't do that deal, for Douby perhaps.

If Diop was RFA I would do it, but the UFA scares me. He would make a great fit next to Al.

Howard, Doleac, or Webber as JES mentioned. It's definitely a downgrade at c, but you've got to give to get.

I agree about Ager. He could be taken out if Minnesota we're willing to send a smaller contract, maybe like Gerald Green to Dallas. I'm not sure how much he's worth though. The only other thing of value Dallas could send would be a late 1st (I don't know if we're looking to trade that or not).
On Diop, I see the reason for hesitation. If I were a Minnesota fan it would come down to do I want: 1) a restricted Smith who is a good player but not a great fit next to Jefferson or 2) an unrestricted Diop who fits nicely next to Jefferson.
After looking at the salary cap thread, the 3 most likely teams to have cap room are Seattle (Swift, Petro, Sene, maybe Kurt Thomas), Philadelphia (Dalembert), and Atlanta (Horford). Would any of those 3 want to pay over MLE money for a probable backup? I doubt it. Diop would also have playing time as a big incentive to return to Minnesota.
On the other hand, it would be cheaper to just draft a big like Jordan or Hibbert next year while keeping Smith, so I could definitely understand a pass from Minnesota.

That would kill it for Dallas from me. I'm not sure any Mavs fans liked the original deal though anyway...

You're lucky to root for Dallas, and not have to deal with MIN's dismal "take your codliver oil" season.
If you a Mav's fan, you get to say, "Hey, what would I, the fan, enjoy seeing? More wins!"
If you're a Wolve's fan, you get to say, "Hey, yeah, I'd enjoy seeing more wins, but the most they'll get me is less ping pong balls in the draft!"
So I agree with you that Diop would improve MIN this season, and why I don't think he's better than Craig Smith, he's certainly a better fit than Craig Smith. However, all this does is make things worse for 2008, when our season actually starts.
I think MIN has no incentive to do any deal that only makes them better this year. All deals should have some type of incentive for the future.
