Toronto - Indiana - Orlando

As I was writing in another thread, I though about this possibility.

Battie
Nesterovic
Ford
____to Indiana

Garbajosa
Kapono
Diener
____to Orlando

O'neal
Arroyo
Reddick
____to Toronto

I think picks would have to be thrown in to get it done.

Why???

well, it's abvious for Toronto, as they'd go up a level instantly IMO. They get good interior defense in O'Neal to play beside Bosh, get a solid backup/expiring (whole thread on this one BTW) PG. Tough to give up Kapono though, so Reddick would have to somewhat fill that whole. A somewhat gamble for Toronto, but if it pays off, they'd be a third team alongside Boston and Detroit.

for Orlando... well, they'd need good picks from Toronto (if any) to do this. They do however get what they hope Reddick becomes in Kapono, who could solidify their 2 guard spot (IMO), they get a solid and real PF that is also a good vet and would play off of Howard as he did last year with Bosh... say a better "Oberto to Duncan". And, what can you say, THE RETUNR OF DIENER!!! ;) Don't really give up much and could recieve more with picks besides the fact that both Kapono and Garbajosa would bring much needed veteranship and consistancy with them, which is basically all they need to get back to the conversations among the eilite in the east.

for Indiana... they get gradual cap relief in the shape of solid big men and they get much needed help at PG with Ford, who could benefit from the style they are currently playing. It's obvious they are in a future mode, and those "gradual" relief (meaning, good expirings both next year (Rasho) and the other year (Battie) is better then one thinks at first glance for possible trades for them.

Thoughts???

JO worries me, but man it'd be hard to turn that down.

Don't think Indy does it, but as a Raptor fan, I like it.

pacers pass. that only makes our already horrible cap situation worse with battie and fords longer deals being added to tinsley, murphy and dunleavy.

Thought so...

However I ask, wouldn't that be better than JO's crazy contract??

Battie's contract (just a fraction of O'Neal's) is as long and Rasho's expires a year earlier, clearing cap room and allowing for good possible trades for you guys. Not to mention it greatly helps your PG situation and Ford could even make Tinsley expendable. BTW, O'neal's value isn't going up, so dealing him earlier could be better for you guys, and in reality, should help you cap situation.

battie is about as injury prone as JO is but is a fraction of the player. JO could opt out at the end of the year and give us about $20mil in cap space. he probably won't, but even in his current condition he's more valuable than battie.

ultimately what the pacers need for o'neal is a KG/Ray Allen-lite (exp, prospects and picks) OR the pacers need to pair him with another difficult to move guy like tinsley or murphy.

this deal accomplishes none of that. getting ford makes tinsley expendable but it doesn't make him easier to trade. battie has 3 more years around $6mil per. ford if less injury-prone would be nice but ultimately it doesn't help the pacers much. also rasho has a players option - which i imagine he'll take. so he will still be on the books for like $7.8mil for two years.
