Portland Trades

- Raef LaFrentz (contract expires 2009)
- Darius Miles (contract expires 2010)
- (Two) highest second round pick in 2008 draft

NY Trades
- Stephon Marbury (contract expires 2009)

Would two high second rounders ( Memphis and NY picks originally, I think) be enough for NY to take on one more year of Miles' contract?

We dont have the roster spots to take on both of the players nor do we actually want Miles or LaFrentz. Two second round picks is certainly not an "incentive"...

I see that Fred Jones' and Morris' contracts expire this offseason. Is NY going to keep them for the future?

Maybe this deal is possible in the summer? How about a future first round pick (lottery protected, of course) in addition to the second round picks?

It seems that Isiah and Dolan finally realized that adding long term contracts to players who are not worth it are bad. I cant see Isiah even considering adding Miles at all, even if he gets a first round pick. With Jefferies, Balkman, Chandler and Richardson there is just no room for him. Though for the Blazers getting rid of Miles would fit lovely for their cap plan.

As far as Morris and Jones go I cant see the Knicks keeping them, but I do love what Jones has done thus far this year. He has played with heart and actually committed to team play. Morris dont get off the bench, I cant see us keeping him.

Well theoretically NY can just buy both Miles and Lafrentz out (just like Portland would with Marbury) and sit on their salaries hitting their cap an extra year so things are not impossible. The capspace that could be huge for Portland wouldn't be applicable for NY (though one can always argue that it's theoretically possible for NY to get under the cap earlier).

The key is NY not giving up any of their assets which you accomplished.

As far as roster spots...even with Jones and Morris expiring, the Knicks will need one of those slots for their likely lottery pick so barring another trade before this they would have to made OR NY would have to buy out one of their other expensive bigs.

i don't think Ny goes for this

I still say my trade from a couple weeks ago, which most considered vastly overpaying by Portland, is closer to what it would actually take to get the Blazers out of Miles' contract.

I would prefer to withhold judgement until more specific conditions on the pick were mentioned.

The only way NY ever takes darius miles contract is if u give up B ROY. Dont't think its happenin....you should defiately pretend this thread never existed.

We wouldn't trade you Roy for your next 5 1st rounders...You don't have to worry about that....

Agreed as well.
If I remember Tim was offering two first rounders plus JJack and the rights to a couple of prospects.

An alternative smaller deal -- easier for NYK in terms of roster size -- would be Miles for Malik Rose (1 yr left). Portland would have to include at least one first...

He's not a Knick fan. So you'd not be looking at the Knicks next 5 1st rounders.

I think the gist here is whether NY is willing to buy assets and what assets will be worth whatever financial excess (including luxury tax costs) the Knicks take on and how much assets the Blazers are willing to give to get that extra capspace.

Pretty much. Depending on the incentive given by Portland I would happily take on and then buy out a turd like Darius Miles.
