Chicago/Memphis/SA trade...

Post#1 » by Blame Rasho » Mon Jan 21, 2008 8:38 pm

Successful Trade Scenario
Congratulations on a successful trade.

Due to San Antonio and Chicago being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. San Antonio and Chicago had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Why for each teams

Chicago needs a post scorer and Gasol is a poor mans KG. He will give you like 80% of his production. They give up Gordon who might not be the best fit for their team, and I believe they would be a better team if they managed to get a legit swing player who can play the two effectively on both ends of the floor in the draft by drafting OJ Mayo. Thomas for whatever reason can't find his niche in the Bulls and he would be buried furthered in the rotation if Gasol came along. They also get a prospect who the Spurs organization is very high on in Ian. They Spurs can also send a 2nd round draft pick via the Raptors in this upcoming draft to Chicago.

Memphis wants expiring contracts well they get them with a first round draft picks by the Spurs, this year and in 2010. I think it is unrealistic for someone to take on Cardinal. In this trade they get flexibility with the expiring contacts and several picks from the Spurs in order to start over with a team that is losing money.

San Antonio. Well we need some energy off the bench and we have had problems with matching up small with certain teams. Thomas helps us do that at the cost of 2 first round draft picks and a 2nd rounder.

Please tell me how bad/good it is for each team and if there could be any modifications that can make it a better or more equal trade. Any comments are welcomed.

Wouldn't Memphis just try to cut the Spurs out? Why would they want Elson over Tyrus Thomas??

Yeah, SA doesn't get Tyrus for anything close to this.

Yeah I know :(. My team needs some type of active big man who we can play small ball with given that Horry is as old as dirt. I figured that some draft picks might make it worthwhile for the Grizz given that the Bulls aren't going to give them any draft picks.

Maybe if you tried to get Warrick instead? He doesn't have TT's upside, but he'll come a lot cheaper and (for whatever reason) doesn't seem to be a part of the Grizzlies' future...

Throw Chicago some type of serviceable guard and this is closer.
