Kapono's contract is too long... That's why we let him go to Toronto in the first place.

That wasn't my understanding...I was under the impression that the Heat didn't have Bird rights on Kapono, so to sign him would have required use of their capspace. But they wanted to go after a PG instead (first choice: Mo Williams, who would have gotten a deal at least as long as Kapono's), so they let Kapono walk. (In the end, as we know, they failed to get Mo OR Charlie Bell.) I don't think the length of Kapono's deal had anything to do with it at the time.
However, now that the Heat are looking at a rebuild, that may have changed.

Not sure Dorell is enough of an upgrade to interest the Raps in moving Kap. If the Raps did decide to move him, it would be part of something more significant I'd imagine.

Well guys the way i look at it is, since Kapono is not really being used correctly here in Toronto and the Heat need outside shooting so badly he would be a perfect fit down there, we also get a PG to back up Candy till TJ gets back and Wright is a solid young player with some potential who's expiring by-the-way so we can resign him for cheap of get the cap space to go after the physical big we need...

We acquired Kapono for Stan Van Gundy's last Heat team. We had his Early Bird Rights.

We did have Kapono's Early Bird rights... My understanding is that we offered him about $4MM for 3 years. He wanted a 4th year, but we were not willing to do it. Then came Toronto who offered him the full MLE for 4 years and he ran with it...

Ah, my mistake. Thanks for the clarification.

Toronto is not touching Smush Parker with a ten foot pole. We don't want him when we have Dixon. I like Dorell Wright but I don't see the Heat going in the luxury tax to get Kopono.

It's not a horrible deal, but I don't think Toronto would be interested in Smush and his reportedly bad attitude.
