Randolph to MIA

Post#1 » by oznba » Wed Jan 23, 2008 1:36 pm

Just been observing some of Miami's recent games and Wade NEEDS some help! I'm starting off with addressing their lack of a low post scorer - most teams in East have that problem but nevertheless - I propose this trade that could help address this. Yes, they could do with a 3 point specialist as well but there are plenty of those around.

IMO z-bo could fit in nicely, take some pressure off Wade and Shaq and is a geniune 20-10 threat.

Miami Trade Breakdown

Incoming Players

Zach Randolph
Fred Jones

Outgoing Players

Udonis Haslem
Jason Williams

New York Trade Breakdown

Incoming Players

Udonis Haslem
Jason Williams

Outgoing Players

Zach Randolph
Fred Jones

IMO NY would benefit as well, Haslem brings toughness and work ethic which NY could use and doesn't demand the ball to be effective. This might also bring Curry into NY's offense a bit more, with J-Craw nice 1-2 scoring punch.

Williams' expiring contract would be a sealer for this deal IMO. NY would probably dump him.

Hell no. Miami needs to rebuild. Zach prevents us from doing it now, and he makes $17.3 million after Shaq retires, so he makes it more difficult then, too.

Miami needs expiring contracts, not horrible ones...

this is exactly what MIA doesn't need imo. they keep getting torched by other teams and trading haslem for randolf makes their defense an abomination. on the offensive end, randolf is a black hole who would take the ball away from wade and disrupt the offensive flow and if possible MIA's offense would become even worse

+1

One of Miami's biggest issues is that they can't stop anyone during crunch time. Last year and the year before, they could rely on guys like Zo, Haslem, Payton, Eddie Jones, Shandon Anderson, and of course, James Posey to step up and play D when it counted, giving Wade a lot more freedom. Now, the only player left capable of playing defense at a high level consistently is Haslem, and he's obviously not enough.

While I fully understand both of your points there certainly seems to be some disconnect between what you want and what seems to be reality. I know this first hand because while I don't think the Knicks should rebuild I think that at the very least they should play the youngsters more than they are but Isiah refuses to do so.

Miami Herald -
With the Miami Heat at rock bottom in the Eastern Conference, coach Pat Riley discussed with media plans which could help get the team back on track, including getting far enough under the cap to sign an elite free agent this summer, the Miami Herald is reporting.

While such a plan would be a longshot at best, Riley said it ''can be done'' but seemed skeptical.

If the Heat do not get under the cap, which is highly unlikely, Riley said the Heat would be using both the mid level exception and the bi-annual exception. [READ]

from the Miami Herald http://www.miamiherald.com/594/story/389601.html
Riley said his ''plan'' remains to have big cap space in summer 2010.

http://www.miamiherald.com/594/story/388465.html
'We'll have a boatload [of cap space],'' Riley said. ``That's the year there are real good free agents are available. You've got to be ready.''

Randolph's contract will bump to Heat cap space in 2010.

Miami Herald
Riley said a maximum contract would start ``at $13 million or something. So if you get $8 [million] under, what the hell good does that make you? You can't even use your midlevel. The midlevel is probably going to be about $6 [million].''

I don't know how much money the bi-annual exception is worth but if it is worth at least 2 million then Riley's plan to sign someone to the mid-level and bi-annual exceptions this year will likely make getting as far under the cap as Riley would want to be in 2010 impossible.
