Why for Utah: It's a chance to land a top pick.

Why for NY: It's an upgrade from Randolph to Boozer.

Utah already owns NY's 2009 first round draft pick.

So I don't know if NY would be able to actually trade this year's first, until after the draft. Then they trade the rights to the player selected.

I doubt Utah does this though, despite how bad Boozer was against LA.

No thanks. One of the reasons we need Boozer is because in our flex offence he can pass from the high post. You want to turn that responsibility over to Zach Randolph??

Jazz don't really need to worry about high draft picks, either. If we trade Boozer (which I doubt) let's solve problems we actually have, like interior defence.

Utah passes, but it's fair value.

With a #4-7 pick Utah could land either a starting SG, or Brook Lopez to boost their interior defense.

However, can score in the post and grab boards, so the impact of losing Boozer probably wouldn't be too bad.

Interesting how a year and a half ago Blazer fans/Jazz haters were saying Z-Bo was maybe even better then Booz. Now Randolph and a first are not equal to Boozer. I'd say it would be close.

The only way Randolph wouldn't be murdered by Sloan is if Zach's defense gave Sloan a coronary first.

I don't know how it can be THAT much worse than Boozer's defense. Unless he's tipping in balls on the defensive end of the floor or something?

I don't think you can sacrifice such a high pick and a potential star if you are NY, nor can you have Z-bo in a Jazz uni if you're Utah. Both clubs say no.

Randolph's two biggest drawbacks IMO has nothing to do with his defense and rather has to do with the length of the contract and his tendency to stagnate an offense (that will need to be even more free flowing than ever before).

Defensively Randolph isn't as bad as some people seem to make him out to be (he's obviously no stalwart either)...at least he hasn't this year with the Knicks. Randolph does try on defense so it's not like Curry who tends to not try hard defensively.

Randolph's problem on the defensive end has more to do with the fact that he's neither exceptionally strong (which limits the people he can body up and prevent from getting good post position) nor does he have good athleticism (his 2 inch vertical is pretty well known and it really prevents any real shot challenging ability). It's not for the lack of trying.

It's actually kinda funny in that if Eddy Curry (who has the strength and the athleticism) actually tried as hard as Randolph tries (relatively speaking of course) that Curry would be just fine defensively.

Value wise its not bad, but I can't see LHM risking the kind of dollars Randolph has coming to him with his very questionable character.

How about the following sequence of trades:


Phx: Barbosa, #15, Tucker to Mem for Mike Miller and Lowry.

Mem: Barbosa to NY for #5 and Rose's expiring.

NY: Randolph to Utah for AK47

Utah: Boozer for other values to be determined.

Provided Sloan could get Randolph play to his potential to replace Boozer, that'd be a win-win-win-win trade!

Jazz gets rid of AK's contract and should get something really useful for Boozer.

NY can play DA's system better with Barbosa and AK, the latter actually better than Marion. All they need is to motivate Curry to play enough defense. Curry/AK/Crawford/Barbosa/Marbury with backups in Lee/Q/Robinson/Jeffries could be the Suns of the East for a lot of fun and regular season success.

I think the biggest difference between Booz and Z-Bo is attitude. The Jazz still wouldn't be hurting at PF if Zach didn't work out if they are getting Lopez. If I was KOC and it came up I would keep it on the back-burner and look for less a gamble but interesting none the less.
