Pistons/Sixers 1 for 1 Blockbuster!

Post#1 » by N.O.R.E. » Mon Sep 29, 2008 5:11 am

I don't know how Pistons fans feel about this, but I actually like the options it gives them:

Pistons receive: Dre Miller

Why?
Andre Miller is comparable stats wise to Billups, however isn't as good on D. His contract expires with Rasheed's giving the Pistons plenty of options regarding free agents, especially if they deal Mcdyess for a useful expiring back-up SF.

Sixers receive: Chauncey

Why?
Chauncey has a championship ring and completes the offseason make-over. He provides outside shooting, defense and leadership. The Sixers would be pretty damn good on both ends of the floor and would have a very good chance of beating anyone in a 7 game series.

I don't think the Sixers do this deal.

They have great team chemistry and wouldn't want to mess it up.

They didn't have a "offseason makeover", they just signed a big time FA that doesn't essentially disrupt their rotation.

Detroit can get more value than this as well.

I love Dre. I think with the exception of his outside shooting he is the quintessential PG.
He rebounds well, his defense is not nearly as bad as some say, he is pass 1st, yet can score well, he has a nice post game that he uses to exploit smaller guards, he is a good leader, has excellent floor vision and passes with the best of them.
That said he is not what Detroit needs, and if they take back an expiring for Chauncy they will still get some sort of combination of 1st round draft picks and or cheap young talent, not simply a one year rental of another old PG.

Plus they need a PG with scoring punch and a outside shot with the rest of the lineup they have.

A big no from both teams.

I wouldn't trade any started if Detroit don't get an upgrade in a starting position. Miller is a downgrade for Billups. (yeah expiring and blablabla but a downgrade talent wise). There are no FA next year worth downgrading a position this year so this deal gets a huge NO from me.

I don't know that Miller is a downgrade talent wise so much.
Just very slightly, but he has a completely different style of play that would not benefit Detroit's lineup and style.

No, Chauncey's better in pretty much every facet except clever passes. Billups is better and it's noticeable.

Billups i better then Miller in nearly every aspect of the game except for maybe running the fast break. Billups is a better shooter, better off the dribble better slasher, better at creating contact, and is one of the best defensive point guards in the league.

I agree, Billups is better.

I also think Billups is one of the top points in the game, I just think Dre is severely underrated, as I think he is one of the top points as well.

But like I stated, yes I agree Dre is a downgrade from Billups and is not enough value as a straight up trade. Plus, he doesn't fit Detroit's style.

As a Piston fan, I'd still do the trade. I really like the idea of the pistons getting capapce, and this will help big time next summer.

I actually think this a good trade for both teams.

I dont see how anybody from Philly could turn this deal down. This makes them serious contenders imo.

PG: Billups
SG: Igudola
C: Dalembert
SF: Young
PF: Brand

I think Detroit should make this trade, as they would remain competitive and have a ton of salary coming off the books with Miller & Sheed.

PG: Miller
SG: Hamiliton
C: Wallace
SF: Prince
PF: McDyess

Even with Miller's contract coming off the books with Sheed's, we still really won't have enough cap space to draw say Boozer away from Utah. It's not worth it. Miller is a very good point, I would just rather have Billups.

A trade I might consider would be Miller and Dally for Dice Billups and Hermann type of deal. That gives us a better overall starting lineup, but I still probably wouldn't do it.

I'd take Miller over Billups 10/10 times.

While I happen to think Billups is better, I don't think it's a very big gap. My concern would be over having both Miller & Stuckey on the floor together since neither can shoot. I suppose that would be less of an issue with Sheed camped behind the line spacing the floor, but I thought that was the sort of thing we wanted to get away from.

If we're just looking at the cap space I'd rather roll the dice on a guy like AI since I think that would be a more drastic move with a greater chance to pay off in the short term.

Nor do I. But he said Miller is "much more valuable," which is a joke.

Hence the lol.

The only thing Miller is better then Billups at is running the fast break. Billups is the reason the Pistons are always one of best offensive teams in terms of efficiency. Miller would make us worse and Billups would make the Sixers better, stupid trade.

Perhaps it could be turned into a 3 way, with AI either going to the Pistons or back to Philly.

 Pretty much right on. Both are older, big $ vets and for either team it's disruptin chemistry more than building something. I could see neither team wanting to do this. Too much of a lateral move.

I think this would be great for the Sixers... They need 3pt shooting and a steady floor leader, and few are better at both than Billups.

Miller's not a bad fit, but I'd rather keep Billups around. Even if it means paying him.
