Yao for Gay and #2

Post#1 » by Guy986 » Tue Jun 9, 2009 10:56 pm

Houston trades:
Yao Ming
Brent Barry

Houston Receives:
Darko Milicic
Rudy Gay
Marko Jaric
Adriana Lima
#2(Rubio)

Memphis trades:
Darko Milicic
Rudy Gay
Marko Jaric
Adriana Lima
#2

Memphis receives:
Yao Ming
Brent Barry

If Rockets are willing to part with Yao, i see this as the ONLY realistic way to obtain the 2nd pick. The Rockets have proven that they can compete without Yao. This trade gives them a C with legit size and skill in Darko, a versatile player that can play 3 positions in Marko Jaric, a wing scorer with allstar potential in Gay(circle of life is now complete), slick Ricky as the player to build around and Lima ofcourse is a bonus.

Memphis gets a top two center in Yao Ming. They also get about 300 million new fans overnight. And lots of moniez from chinese endorsement company.

No it doesn't. Rudy Gay easily has more value than Gasol. For the Rockets to do this, they need a potential all star wing coming back. I think at this point of their career, Marc Gasol is probably not noticably any better than Darko. All Rockets need Darko to do is take up space in the middle and block shots; something that he should be able to handle adequately.

I actually think Memphis hesitates at this deal simple because of the history of Yao's broken feet. If they had no center then sure. But as it stands Marc Gasol played pretty well for them on his rookie contract. If the Grizzlies give up Gasol plus the #2 pick I think they might want a player that's not injury prone.

I think Memphis might pass because Yao would be a lock to leave next year.

So Houston is gonna go into battle with Chuck Hayes, Luis Scola, and Carl Landry as their frontline.... awesome...

The deal needs to be Mayo, Gasol, and the #2 for HOU to even continue to listen on the phone. If that's too much for Memphis, oh well, that's just the price. Franchise players seldom are traded, just look at CLE fans and their outlook.

Gay is useless, since they already have TCripple, Crazy Man (maybe resigned), and Battier at the 3. Mayo on the other hand will slot in at SG very nicely with Gasol taking over Yao's old spot, otherwise, what's the point if you're not gonna get a king's ransom.

That's fair to say. This is not a homerun for both teams. There will always be some lingering doubts regarding Yao's foot. But certainly there is some merits for both teams to atleast consider. Yao's value is not as great as before. I already took that into consideration. If this is Yao at full value, i would've asked for OJ Mayo, Rudy Gay and #2 pick in return. As it stands i think Gay, Darko, Marko and #2 is pretty fair value for who is probably the most marketable star in the league.

I only sign off on this deal if Lima is redirected to my house.

I think the Rockets would rather have Gasol then Darko. Darko has already been in the league for years and already reached his "peak". He's not getting any better. Gasol actually has potential.

Also, is there any way for the Lakers to send luke walton somewhere for Lima? Or does Marko have to come with her?

Memphis doesn't have the depth to give up both Gay and #2 for Yao since they already have Gasol. They are already without a starting quality power forward. Now they not only have to find one of those but a starting quality small forward as well. And they also would need to figure out what to do with Marc Gasol, a player they really like.

A trade between these teams isn't in the cards unless another team is involved.

As long as I'm getting in on Adriana, I'm ok with it.

But in all seriousness, this wouldn't be enough to net Yao.

No chance Houston would do Gay and #2 for Yao.
No chance Memphis would do Gasol and #2 for Yao.

marc just came off a rookie season vastly superior to anything darko has ever done. i don't think your comment about the two has much merit. nothing wrong with preferring rudy gay over gasol (i personally value gasol more), but give the big man his due.

Hmmm.........didn't Yao say that he would just go back to China if Houston didn't want him?

Memphis needs a vet that is a proven leader, and Yao is not that guy. I would rather have the ultra cheap Gasol2.0 at C.

I can't see Memphis doing this. Yao is 28 right now and Memphis isn't in any condition to compete right now. I'm thinking they'd opt to keep their current core together.

Memphis doesn't touch this deal.

Yao wouldn't re-sign there, and he doesn't fit with the uptempo lineup they are building.
