If Marion wants to get paid more why don't Toronto and Dallas do a sign and trade. We have the Stack Chip, we can pay for his expiring contract and add another player. So he will be paid 7 million and if he does come to Dallas i guarantee Kidd will stay in Dallas because he then knows Dallas is trying to win by going for it all. He is also familiar playing with Kidd in his days back in Phoenix. He gives Dallas another scoring threat also another good defender.
Dallas Gets:
Shawn Marion-7 Million
Toronto Gets:
Stackhouse
Wright
2/3 Million
This will give Dallas this starting Lineup.
C-Damp/Gortat
PF-Dirk/Bass/Nivins
SF-Marion/Singleton/George
SG-J-Ho/Terry/Ross
PG-Kidd/JJB/Roddy
How does this sound to you???

What possible motive would Toronto have in doing this?

This probably just guarantees Chris Bosh leaves.

This has nothing to do with Toronto its just Dallas Signing a player without having cap space by sign and trade ya'll get a player in return who is servicable in Wright.

Can Marion play SF anymore?
I think Dallas would be better off going for a tall SG who can create off the dribble and defend. Also Josh Howard is best at SF.
That and bench depth would help. Bass probably won't be on the roster anymore once he signs with the Magic.

What if it's a sign and trade with Dallas-Toronto-NY
Dallas gets Shawn Marion
New York gets Stack
Toronto gets the cash that NYC has in trade exceptions which is like 7 million

It does have to do with Toronto because no one can rebound as well as Marion at SF, and with mediocre rebounders like Bosh and Barg around that's a necessity. Course, they still need to assess the risk of Marion declining since his quality is entirely based on athleticism, but they need more help at wing than Dallas does, and they have to either resign Marion or join the Hedo sweepstakes to make or break this offseason.
The Raptors don't do this unless they know Bosh is leaving, and if Marion could be had for 7 mil/year they would rather extend him.

Actually dallas has a defensive need and Marion provides that. Did you see us this past pot-season we couldn't defend worth ****.

This is a point I think most people miss about Marion. Sure he doesn't create the way some SF do, but he runs the wings well, has good Bball IQ, and (for now) is athletic, and most importantly he is the best rebounder at the SF postion in the entire game besides possibly Lebron. Carmello had a big year on the glass as well, but seriously, how many teams get 8 rebounds from thier starting 3?

Whatever video game includes a center that can't grab boards. Too bad Dallas has Dampier, Dirk, Bass and Kidd eating up all the boards. Howard dropped from 7.0 to 5.0 after Kidd and w/bad ankles.
Marion's rebounding skill is not what we would be targeting him for.

What are you talking about he averaged 7 rebounds in 06-07 and got more than 8 when he's been healthy. Check his 06-07 season and you'll see he's a good rebounder.

Toronto has to consent to it. Which we wouldn't. If we wanted to save money we'd just renounce Marion, in which case you could offer him the MLE...if you still had it.
Unless Dallas is willing to give up an asset in a S&T (which Antoine Wright is not), Marion won't be a Mav.

I kind of agree here. They would be better off letting Marion (and other free agents go) and go for a different free agent. That is unless they can swing a three way deal where they get a better player then Marion inplace of Stackhouse which in that case Dallas much just go to that team.

Dallas has Josh Howard. The Raptor's best wing outside of Marion is a 34 year old Anthony Parker. Ya, I'd say the Raptors would rather keep Marion if all it takes is 7 mil. We still don't know how much Marion is going to demand, last year he rejected a 3 year 30 mil extension from Miami, even with teams trying to save up there is no knowing if 7 mil is enough for him.
