Help The Bucks Keep Sessions

Guys,
Milwaukee needs your help.
Minnesota has just offered Ramon Sessions on offer sheet of about 4m per.

Milwaukee does have Jennings, Ridnour and Ukic, but Jennings is very young and very raw, Ridnour is a veteran expirer, and Ukic is a srub.
Regardless, it's imperative this team keep Sessions, if for no other reason than this deal is an absolute bargain for a PG like Sessions. Whether or they keep him or trade him, they are adding a great asset.

According to this article:
http://my.journaltimes.com/post/woelfel ... sheet.html

The Bucks are 1.6 under the tax, so they would need to free roughly 2.5m.

That being said, anyone have any suggestions?

Here are some of mine:

w/HEAT
Ridnour, K.Thomas, C.Bell, J.Alexander, W.Sharpe *(when eligible)
for
Haslem, J.Jones, D.Wright, 2.9m TPE

Or keep it simple:

J.Alexander, W.Sharpe, 2011 #2
for
3.3 TPE

w/KNICKS
Ridnour, C.Bell, KT, F.Elson
+
Ukic (separate deal for QRich TPE)
+
Sharpe (separate deal for Roberson TPE)

for

Curry, Douglas, J.Crawford, C.Hunter, #2, $3m, ~$5m in savings

Sessions / Jennings / Douglas
Redd / Meeks / Crawford
Delfino / LRMM / Alexander
Warrick / Ilyasova / Hunter
Bogut / Curry / Gadzuric

We don't need to do anything that drastic if we want to keep him. We would only need to clear $2M. Elson + cash for a protected 2nd clears $1.7M. Now we're only $300,000 below.

Who has a TPE and roster spot that would take on Elson?

Exactly. We don't need to make any drastic trade to cut that salary, certainly not help out New York for no incentive which was the main reasoning for this post I'm guessing.

Are you getting Elson confused with Gadzuric? What makes Elson such an albatross that no team would want to take him on?

No, I posted the Miami deal elsewhere tonight (both within in recent weeks)
The NY one is new.

And, while I was expecting criticism for it, I stand behind it.

C.Bell is 2010-2011 salary..3.8m (and 2011-2012 salary.... Curry is not)
Ukic is 2010-2011 salary assuming he picks up is his 1.5m PO.

Curry is $11.3m in 2010.
Douglas is $1m

As in they take on 12.3 in salary but would have had 5.3.
They gain $7m in 2010 salary but they...

Save $5m in 2009 salary
Get $3m from NY
Net Gain of $1m between savings, cash and 2010 salary
Sign Sessions with no Tax
Get #2
Get Tony Douglas and Eddie Curry

Huh? It was a legit question.

Nothing makes him an albatross.

Not many teams have large enough TPE to take on Elson for pure savings, of those teams I'm not sure who has a roster spot or need for Elson.
Denver maybe?

We are not taking on Eddy Curry where the only incentive is Toney Douglas who would either be the 4th or 5th point guard on the roster. Just that simple. You want Curry, you're taking Gadz or giving us Jordan Hill.

Not sure if Dallas has the roster room, but considering their lack of depth at center, the ever popular Buckner for Kurt Thomas swap?

I was curious too.

Here's my favorite TPE site:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... eId=lduvlj

MIL:
Redd
for
Haslem/Korver

MIA:
Haslem/Jones/TPE
for
Boozer/Miles

UTAH:
Boozer/Korver/Miles
for
Redd/Jones/TPE

Save MIL $4.7m this year and another $12.3m next year, so they can match Sessions, gets MIA Boozer with minimal impact to 2010 & gets UTAH decent return for Boozer without taking on extra $ & only 1 more year (Deron/Redd/AK/Milsap/Okur should be top 3 in the West)

I think I posted that exact same trade but with Harping instead of Miles before. Utah fans didn't like it because they had a ridiculous amount of money tied up into like 5 or 6 players next season.

Here are the ten teams with TPE's of $1.6 mil or larger that could take on Elson. Who have you discussed that you think is a likely candidate?

CHI, DEN, LAC, LAL, MIA, NJN, NYK, OKC, ORL, PHO

Considering they don't have much depth there, and are always looking to add picks, I see no reason why a team like Oklahoma City wouldn't add a player like Elson if it didn't cost them much/anything and they got a pick out of it (future second?). Even teams like Denver, Lakers or Phoenix could look at him for depth if we added cash to make up for some of his salary so he wouldn't cost much with the tax.

It's not that Elson is an albatross, the problem is that so few teams 1.) Have a TPE big enough to fit his salary and 2.) Don't have luxury tax issues.

According to storytellerscontracts, only 7 teams (CHI, DEN, HOU, LAC, LAL, NJ and OKC) have a TPE big enough to fit Elson on the roster. In addition Sacramento has cap space, so 8 teams total.

Of those teams, Denver, Houston and the Lakers are already over the tax and the Bulls, if they traded for Elson would be less than $400K under the tax. For this reason, I doubt any of these places are viable options for the Bucks.

Of the 4 remaining teams, I guess what is the motivation to help Milwaukee out by taking Elson (even if MIL is including cash for the salary) when on most of those team's he's a 3rd center? Plus they would forfeit the potential trade chip that a TPE could represent at the deadline.

Lets say MIL match the offer, MIN still needs a backup PG. How about Ridnour, Elson, Sharpe for Cardinal?

Min get solid backup point, MIl should get closer to avoiding the lux tax.

No reason for MIN to do a 3-for-1 (they'd have to buy out a player with a 16-man roster) and eat additional salary, especially when they have no ambitions for 2009-10.

If MIN was to help, it would have to help in 2010, when they are competing. Try:

Ridnour + Elson + Sharpe for Atkins + Songalia.

Yeah as I've said before, that trade is fine by me. Songaila gives our power forwards toughness, something Ersan and Warrick really don't have. Next season we would have no need to sign a stopgap power forward either.
