This changes nothing, only that nobody wanted to give him an extension.
He can still be traded
Don’t think it’s happening bro, nobody is interested anyways

Probably best to just see if an offseason to recollect himself can help fix whatever was wrong with his head last season. If he bounces back as a 40% 3pt shooter next season then he can be a useful bench player -- overpaid but it might be easier to move him at that point

I was under the impression that any bargain Kyrie deal would clearly be him opting in and agreeing to extend “in principle”. A sign and trade would hard cap us.
Why is everyone acting like something has changed with this lunatic?

I really hope we can get him. Young with still a lot of potential. Magic is hurting for shooting so why lose him to the Knicks for nothing? I’ll gladly give them Duncan and the 2023 first.

The speculation was extremely fake. The real world Irving said he’s going back to the Nets and not leaving Durant. Not going to keep going around in circles on this. No need to keep hope trafficking.

Herro (he wants to start or he wants a trade)/Strus/Highsmith

Jovic
Adebayo/Yurtsven
10 players with a deep hole at PF
assuming we resign haslem that’s 11
4 more roster spots
Who should we get to fill this up?

Very willing to attach an asset to Duncan as long as it gets us a rotation player. Can’t keep hoping the defense is going to magically work with Herro and Strus rotating in and out with him. Gotta move him now

Ah didn’t realize there were Irving quotes. Care to share?

1. Asked about Irvin being the big fish we were trying to go for. Answer was a laugh and said no. Saying he was a possibility we through very little assets at. He did see two separate packages put together for him but it didn't move the needle. Nets came back with a request, heard some of the senior exec's laughing about the ridiculousness of it, but he didn't see what it was. It was a consensus across the table nobody was gonna offer anything of too great of value. Biggest conversation was Irvin's best interest is to play out another year, prove to be a winning player in the playoffs without drama and he may be able to get back in the good graces. Opting makes him even more unattractive to the Heat who would be sending off assets for a rental.
2. Asked about PJ, said they feel really confidant he is staying. Nothing from PJ or his Agent on any ultimatums or aggressive conversations, he knows Miami is going to take care of him. Also Philly is struggling trying to trade some of their assets for cap space to make room for him. In the end PJ has been monitored more than most during this time, our players under contract are also really selling him to stay.
3. Asked about Dipo, said he didn't have much on Dipo, but there isn't that confidence he will be back from the staff, there is a number out there from his agent to our team as a target. He doesn't know what it is but he did hear someone mention it was similar to Lowry's or close to it.
4. He did hear a phone call on speaker from another teams exec walking through some possibilities on mid level assets around Duncan's range but there was a resounding No and a comment of that will be hard for you folks to package this year you may need to wait another year and hope he comes out on fire next year.
5. Miami's final offer was sent in with an added asset they didn't want to originally give up for the big fish. However the third team is still very non-committal on accepting, Miami is still submitting the packet hoping they can find a third team to commit by Thursday. This player is under a multi year contract with another team at the moment so no names will be mentioned.
6. Also said they are being really strict with cell phone use, told everyone on Friday that today all phones to be left at their cars or at the sing in desk. Miami sent out a memo today to two specific departments that last years second round pick loss could be elevated if something significant leaks again prior official free agency. Apparently teams talk before free agency and put out feelers and packets together for different situations that the league knows happens but just don't make it obvious or get caught.
