Is Jimmy Overrated?
Knicks fan here and I come in peace, I promise lol. I just want to legitimately know because I watch a few Heat games here and there being that Jimmy is on my fantasy team, but has he started his decline or is that greatly exaggerated? I remember watching Jimmy on Minnesota and I don’t remember him being this hesitant before. There’s a lot of games this season alone where he just looks disinterested in scoring. When I look at the Miami roster they are really missing that go to scorer. Now, obviously I know what Miami’s track record has been over the past 10 plus years, but do you fans still have faith in him and this core in Miami? Is he actually overrated or just doing what he’s always done?

I wouldn't say he's in an exaggerated decline, but he is 35. He might be ready to just move on to a real contender.

Even when he was younger and healthier, he kind of coasted in the regular season. Now he's just a little older and less healthy lol. I think he'd still be really good in a high leverage game, as long as he's healthy.

He is a confident, hard working, skilled player. The same he has always been. He is an underdog that over produces most of the time. He is still the best player on the Heat and even when he comes back from injury he makes plays that show why he is still the best player. Definitely not overrated, still an elite player.

You just need to look at postseason success for your answer. In 5 years we’ve been 1 made 3 away from 3 finals trips. The other 2 seasons he was injured (last year) and we were coming off an nba finals in the bubble and had the shortest offseason in nba history (like 60 days) before losing to the Bucks round 1 in 2021

I think it's legitimate to question where Butler is at age 35, especially after not getting to see him in the playoffs last season. I do have concerns with his overall health, but I'm not concerned at all if he's able to play. Physically, this preseason we saw Butler go basically straight up to get an offensive rebound and dunked it back in which I'm not sure how many years it's been since he's done that. During the season je's also had a breakaway double clutch reverse dunk that didn't' count because K.Love didn't get completely out of bounds throwing the ball in. Currently Butler has 20 dunks in 17 games, he's not had more dunks than games played since they year before signing with Miami at age 29.
I really believe Butler's has treated his body as a job for so many years now, he's going to be very good deep into his 30s unless a major injury happens.
When I watch him play this season, when he's trying, I don't see a player who is almost done playing at a high level, I see a player that has the chance to play at a high level for a few more years. Luckily/unluckily for Butler, his game is built on BBIQ, strength, skill and more importantly hard work, so even if he drops off some on quickness it doesn't affect his game as much as others.

He has started his decline, but so far he's been able to make up for declining ability with basketball smarts.
He's also not happy because we refused to pay him. I doubt we get much for him in a trade. I just hope we don't take back crap on multi-year deals.

I haven't seen any noticeable decline since he joined the Heat. He actually looks springy as ****, easily getting up for dunks and oops, competing on D. It's a game to game availability that's the issue. He's still an elite, top 15 player.

Without Jimmy butler, Heat is a losing team. Herro and Bam ain’t going to cut it. Heat wouldn’t have never been to these finals without jimmy Butler. Let’s not kidding ourselves

Re: Is Jimmy Overrated?
Thanks for the feedback. This is why I had to ask real Heat fans. When I watch the games (emphasis on regular season), Herro looks like the best scorer on the team. I know Jimmy can score but he just doesn’t seem to try all that often. Hesitates on a lot of shots he can take. As an outsider I just don’t understand what Pat is doing though. For a team to basically be knocking on the door of contention for the last 5 years or so he hasn’t really done much. Dame would’ve been the perfect fit for the Heat. Unfortunately now, I think trading Jimmy might be the best chance assuming there’s value coming back. A go to scorer or stretch big would work wonders.

He is Not overrated, but certainly not worth more than Forty million In a year by year contract And he has to immediately stop trying to be the alpha dog and Become the third or fourth fiddle at the most

Jimmy is not trying to be the alpha dog. I think he wants the young players to go at it in the regular season to be able to strengthen aspects of their game without him hogging the ball like LeBron James or harden. The problem with playing like a superstar in the regular season is that teams will figure out which players to target. Like harden with the rockets in playoff times, team figured out harden and his teammates looks lost because his teammates heavily relying on harden to be their problem solver. Same case with Steve Nash. And if Jimmy took heat to the final, he definitely worth $50 mil annual salary
