...that the two most popular Heat trades on group chats/forums/Twitter would have been disasters?

Bam for Embiid would've made us older, lazier, and more injured. And Herro for Lillard-- a trade that I wanted like everyone else-- would have been just as bad.

We aren't there yet. But if we can finish the Jimmy trade and develop our young core into true assets, we are going to be in a healthy position going forward.

I never wanted Embiid so I can't speak to that one, but the Dame trade was to go all in with Jimmy and his remaining timeline of 1-3 years. It was about picking a direction, we didn't go all in with him and never won a title, and we held onto him too long instead of starting this youth movement earlier and now are being forced to do it anyways better late then never. But Butler should of been dealt that Dame trade offseason as soon as it didn't work out.

I don’t remember Bam for Embiid being a hot topic, or actually it being considered by the Heat. Maybe Bam for KD was a more realistic scenario.

Dame - what was the trade? I was willing to move Herro for him, but I wasn't willing to sell the farm, like Riley. Heat were in a position where we had a glut of wings and were in dire need of a PG, and wanted to make a run on the Jimmy timeline while maintaining flexibility for the next build of Miami by having contracts end at a time to do the next build around Bam. I imagine Jimmy gets his 1 year extension if we do that build so that Jimmy and Dame expire at the same time.

I still do some version of the Dame trade for Herro, even knowing what I know now about Herro, if it didn't involve much else, as much as I love what he is doing.

Well, I never *want* to trade anyone, not even Duncan. When random Internet people give their unoriginal reply of "well thank goodness you are not the GM" they just happen to be 100% correct about me.

As I recall I was on the "hell no" bandwagon for Dame because Martin, JJ and Niko's named were floated around. So not even on the technically correct side of that trade considering Herro went super nova this year

If this thread is a means of coming to grips with your past desires ..trust me, getting use to be wrong about something is easier to do then it might seem

100% agree on the Dame-Herro deal. Herro may never make an all-star game; Dame is a perennial all-NBA guy, a potential MVP candidate, and probably the closest player there is to Steph Curry.

My issue with Embiid was/is the same as it was when Miami was discussing trading for Harden: they're unlikeable, apathetic divas. But Embiid is precisely the kind of talent Riley has a hard time staying away from. If Embiid had had his head in the right place and had been able to stay healthy, he could have become an all-time great. That's really the difference between him and Giannis.
