It's one bad season after a couple of seasons of over achieving in the playoffs. This fire Spo thing has 0 context and makes no sense to me.
This isn't the first time we've had bad season in Spo era. Big 3 era ended pretty sad with an ass whooping by Spurs. The season before we got Butler was miserable. The season after the bubble sucked too. And we rebounded from those season.
Spo hasn't been good this year but primary reason we suck is caused the FO was too slow to recognize this core was done. They are always too slow to recognize when the team needs a change.
Spo should stick around unless he doesn't want to coach. He has earned the right. There are not that many elite coaches. If we were gonna go fire Spo route, you gonna be switching coaches every 2-3 seasons.
I think the players and coaches are mentally exhausted by this season. And the dumb heat culture nonsense doesn't help. You are not contenders accept that, and maybe you can play free with no pressure. I think what needs to happen is a major roster change. I am all for trading Bam and Herro. But if you are not gonna do that, move some pieces around.
If the team elects to rebuild, which, imo, is the correct strategy, parting ways with Spo isn’t a crazy idea.
He may very well be at the point in his career of not being in tune with the challenges of coaching a young roster.
My ideal vision for the team would be a front office and a coaching regime change with Wade being brought in as the next team president and maybe someone like Juwan Howard taking over as head coach.
Next year won’t be a tear down due to the fact that tanking is out of the question with OKC having a free and clear lottery pick from us. A pick they may even end up trading for a superstar pickup.
Being bad next year is real possibility regardless if the team is attempting not to be bad.
That aside, I wonder if a team were to offer Mia a trove of picks/ assets in the offseason, if they would consider trading Bam.
If so, the possibility of Spo either moving upstairs or moving on from the team entirely seems within the range of possible outcomes.
