And what if he turns into Kwame, Swift, Milic, Olowokandi, etc. Centers have a high chance of turning into busts that are only good at being tall and athletic, but don't have the skillset necessary to succeed. He could turn into a greater center, but I'm scared about taking such a huge risk.

DeAndre Jordan is so superior athletically to likes of those that you mentioned. It's not even really far comparison.
I don't know where the stuff of people thinking he's destined to be a bust. I think he's going to be a beast.

I'm just scared because being athleticism doesn't automatically mean success. Theres just been so many times that a big man has been chosen over talented guards that have gone on to be great players in the league. But, sometimes you have to roll dice and hope for the best.

Anyone care for a pop quiz? Which one is Ricky Davis the two seasons before he joined the Heat, and which one is Mike Miller's past two seasons?
PLAYER 1
19.4pts / 5.0ast / 4.5reb
17.0ppg / 4.8 ast / 3.9 reb
PLAYER 2
18.5pts / 4.3 ast / 5.4 reb
17.0 ppg / 3.7 ast / 6.6 reb
One of them we can't wait to lose in free agency, and the other one some of us can't wait to pay $9 million a year for the next several years.

Excellent post.....the grass isnt always greener.
The one thing that statisitics fail to point out though, is basketball IQ. What is Mike MIller like as a teammate. WOuld he fire up wild shots when someone is available on the low block like Davis does? Does he know the difference between a good shot and a makeable shot (Davis does not)?
I haven't watched enough of Mike Miller to know the answer to those questions but I do know from what I have seen that he is a better shooter, has a quicker release on his shot and is better at spotting up. He would have been a much better teammate for SHaq but I don't know that he does a lot for the current Heat team.

Miller is the better pure shooter no doubt, but Ricky actually sets up teammates better (see assists).
All told, neither has had any real impact in their careers in terms of all-star appearances, wins/losses, or even fear from opponents. Many of us wouldn't even offer Ricky $2 million to stay, but at the same time we'll jump on board for Miller at $9 million/year for several years and take away any hope for cap space (Brand)?
Doesn't add up to me...

Bucks fan here,
You guys should do this deal and have an awesome trio of wade/redd/marion.
Bucks Trade:
Michael Redd (miami)
Desmond Mason (miami)
Dan Gadzuric (miami)
Bucks Recieve:
Mike Miller
Dorrel Wright
Jason Williams
Memphis Trades:
Mike Miller (milwaukee)
Memphis Recieves
Ricky Davis
Miami Trades:
Jason Williams (milwaukee)
Ricky Davis (Memphis)
Dorel Wright (milwaukee)
Miami Recieves:
Michael Redd
Dan Gadzuric
Dez Mason
This trade benefits all sides. The heat can have a very formidable big three (marion/wade/redd) and add an athletic center to run up and down the court (gadz)
Memphis gets another expiring deal, and if they really want something else, maybe the bucks could throw in CV.
From there, the bucks get a cheaper michael redd in miller and a possible solution for their sf spot in dorel wright.
Bucks New Lineup:
Mo Williams/Ivey
Mike Miller/Charlie Bell
Dorel Wright/Bobby Simmons
CV/Yi
Bogut/Voskuhl
Depending on how wright plays, you could also start bell or ivey in the backcourt and shift miller to the front court. But this trade allows the bucks to drastically reduce salaries with miller instead of redd, and dumping gadz contract. I'd think the bucks would be best off just cutting jason williams as soon as the trade goes down.
Now the heats lineup (pre lotto pick)
Dwayne Wade/
Michael Redd/Dez Mason
Shawn Marion/Dez Mason
Haslem/
Gadz/Mark Blount
