Ouch, no need for that. I was just thinking in a soft east a marion+wade team could sneak into the playoffs. Wolves need another draft pick.

After a slight hiccup, we just need to maintain our focus and not slip into these old habits of outscoring the other team like we have in previous seasons. Luckily Minnesota is keeping pace with us and keeping us locked in top spot.
Some notes:
* With Gasol to Lakers, Kidd to Dallas, Shaq to Phoenix, Kurt Thomas shoring up Spurs frontline, you could be thinking "Damn, the West got tougher, Seattle, Memphis and Minnesota are going to rack up even more L's out in that conference". Wrong. These three teams aren't going to beat those top teams. It's the lower teams in the West that they have a chance of beating like Sacramento, Portland, Houston and the Clippers.
Now with the top 9 in the West clearly solidified and strengthened (5 game gap between 9 and 10), this second tier of teams that were once trying to vie for those last spots will soon fall into a late tanking strategy. We all know that when a mediocre team (Sacramento/Portland etc) plays a bottom team (Seattle/Minnesota/Memphis) and both teams are tanking, all bets are off.
* In the East, there is a 7 game gap between the 8th seed, and the 2nd last place Knicks. So basically every team in the East (except us) is still in the playoff hunt. That means while we have every reason to tank, every other team is still trying to get a win. Yippee, more balls for us!!!
The Knicks are most likely to drop out of the race for the playoffs, but with Isiah under the hammer, and rumours he will be departing in the offseason, there is every incentive for him to keep going for the playoffs, as short sighted a goal as that is.
* Our mathematical elimination is in full swing. We can already do no worse than the 23rd pick mathematically, add in the almost guaranteed loss to the Hawks (down 3, 51 seconds left, their ball, no Marion or Banks) and we can do no worse than the 20th pick. Boston, Detroit, Orlando, San Antonio, New Jersey, Dallas, Houston, Lakers, Phoenix, Utah - all already no match for us. Golden State, Denver, you are next (amazingly we could be mathematically eliminated from the West playoffs before March even begins if we played there)

They're calling it a 4, but I'm giving it a 5.
Our streaking rolls on, the tally officially at a 4 game losing streak, but a glorious 51.9 seconds, to me, counts us another one.
Oh if only every loss could be over in less than a minute. Let's embrace the bandaid like ripping that the Atlanta game was, rather than the chinese water torture that every other game has become.
A few updates:
You may be alarmed and disheartened to hear this, so grab a chair and sit down, but we were mathematically eliminated for homecourt advantage in the playoffs this week. Yes, in fact, the best we can finish is 6th. With the way Boston and Detroit look, I think it's crucial we nab that 6th spot! 7th and 8th will be doozies!
We now are officially in the bottom half of the league guaranteed. Our 15th elimination occurred as Portland rolled over the Mendoza.
Quite a few of the teams out of the playoff race had a few wins lately, and it's quite surely a 4 man race. Memphis, Minnesota and Seattle are the only realistic teams with a chance at that elusive worst record. Just about the rest of the teams have 20+ wins (except New York) and for us to go 9-12 the rest of the way would take an act of god.
Our draft board can be narrowed to 7 at this point, it is safe to say.

To give an indication of our close out for the season, here's what the other 3 contenders records will look like if they keep up their average winning percentage.
Minnesota 18-64
Memphis 20-62
Seattle 21-61
At that rate, we'll need to win a third of our games to even catch Minnesota, but those guys are on a 2 game win streak and have games against Seattle, Clippers, Memphis, Pacers and the Knicks the rest of this month alone.
I'm more concerned with Memphis than Minny or Seattle, as both those teams have their franchise players in place and are packed with youth, and in my opinion, trying to improve rather than tank, whilst Memphis threw up a white flag in the Gasol trade and are gunning for their next superstar with a top 2 pick.
They are going to tank hard. 2 wins in their last 18 games shows they are committed, and if they can match our effort on the court, they can give us some real trouble.

The train rolls on, 8 straight and counting. You can tell we are in the stretch run and the pressure is mounting. Riley has historically tightened the rotation at the end of the season to around 7 players and this year is no different. Wade, Marion and Haslem have been receiving DNP's of late, so you can tell we aren't ****ing around!! Just as Van Gundy stepped back to allow Riley to coach during our championship run two seasons ago, Riley has done the same, allowing Rothstien to do what he knows how to do best, keep chucking the coal in and get this sucker churning!!
Memphis, Minnesota, Seattle have been slipping up, and at this point I believe they are resigned to our dominance, no longer trying to catch us. Minnesota and Memphis both broke their streaks and lost ground today.
We have also offically secured our place in the lottery as of yesterday!!! We shouldn't get complacent, there's still 17 games left, and anything can happen. We are in fact already assured the 10th worst record, or mathematically, no worse than the 13th pick!

Well, it's been 2 weeks since the last update, and it hardly feels like a competition. The Heat has really bulked up their roster with Ahearn, Lasme, Powell, Bobby Jones. The powerhouse got stronger. Not only did we add these guys, but they were helping us so much they've even made some starts! We don't F around people.
The praise has been pouring in, with Shaq praising Quinn and Ricky Davis, while Paul Pierce stuck up for our roster after Kevin Garnett tried to insult us. Pierce granted us the highest compliment, going as far as to call us a 'team full of d-leaguers'. I doubt Davis, Blount and Quinn ever thought their play would warrant such praise, but yes fellas, even support players will be overrated like this when the team is on fire like this!
We are at a point now, where many of you will be thinking, can I start cheering for this team to win again? Sure, we seem safe now, winning 4 of our last 8 would still keep us in last spot, regardless of whether every other team loses the rest of the way. Even winning 6 of our last 8 would only drop us to 2nd worst as a worst case. Well here are some reasons to keep our scores below 70 per.
1) ROY - next year we will likely have a ROY candidate. Beasley, Rose and Oden will probably be among the favourites. As always, a combination of statistics and winning is factored in. The more we lose this season, the larger the 'impact' of the rookie wins-wise.
2) Winning culture - many people point to the impact tanking has on a teams mentality. Well, at this point there is probably only one guy playing (Blount) who will earn any minutes, the other guys playing (Powell, Lasme, Ahearn, Quinn, Davis, Anthony, Barron, Johnson) will either be 3rd string or cut. So it doesn't matter what these guys do, or what their mentality is. Also I don't think we're changing anyones mentality by going 17-65 or 13-69.
So, even though we know that Wade, Haslem, Wright, Zo and Marion never sustained any injury all season and have actually been playing one another in a secret practice facility buried 60 floors below the earth's surface in preparation for 08-09 season while Riley takes games off to drop up the 08-09 playbook, lets just relax and let this 07-08 team build a record for futility that paves the way for a historic season next year, breaking all records.
