The Miami HEAT announced today that they have signed center David Padgett and guard Jason Richards. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Padgett (6-11, 230-pounds), appeared in 83 games (74 starts) in three seasons at the University of Louisville after transferring from the University of Kansas. He finished second on Louisville’s all-time field goal percentage list (.613). During his senior season, Padgett appeared in 26 games (20 starts) for the Cardinals’ and averaged 11.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.12 blocks. He finished the season shooting 66.7 percent from the field which is the second best single-season field goal percentage in the school’s history. Additionally, he was an unanimous All-Big East selection and was named to the USBWA All-District IV Team.
Richards (6-2½, 210-pounds), appeared in 128 games (70 starts) in four seasons at Davidson College and averaged 8.6 points, 5.2 assists and 2.5 rebounds while shooting 41.7 percent from the field and 34.2 percent from three-point range. He dished out a school-record 663 career assists and finished ninth in school history with 121 career steals. As a senior, Richards appeared in 36 games (all starts) and averaged 12.7 points, 8.1 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.39 steals. He finished the season leading all NCAA Division I players in assists (293) and placed ninth nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.82).
