Posey to the Hornets?!

Post#2 » by DayofMourning » Wed Jul 16, 2008 8:06 pm

Story:

The reigning NBA champions are about to lose their glue guy.

NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com on Wednesday that James Posey has agreed to a four-year deal with the New Orleans Hornets worth an estimated $25 million.

Because of luxury-tax concerns, Boston was reluctant to offer Posey, 31, more than a two-year deal in spite of his considerable contributions to the Celtics' first championship since 1986

Wow great deal 6.25 a year, for posey. I think its a good deal for posey and a decent deal for the hornets, posey will be on the decline in about a year or 2 and the last 2 years of the deal could be abit much, but hey you wana win, you need players like posey!!! Congrats Posey you deserve it and earned it!!!!

Posey for 6th man of the year!!!

Posey sure is trying to do his best impersonation of Robert Horry-title hoppin'.

The Hornets were very good last year and if they would have had some experience then they might have been in the Finals themselves.

Adding a key veteran like Posey was a great addition.

Way to go Posey!

Good for Posey. I like that NO team, they have tough defenders there.

Damn, you beat me to it. Posey might become Robert Horry 2.0.

He's got a long way to go to catch Horry, but he does have 2 titles (right?) already and NO is a great opportunity for another.

The thing about Horry, is he has won titles in three different teams.

Yeah Posey is far from Horry in the title count.

But even if he wins just 2 more.

But 4 titles in 3 different teams, would be quite something. Also Horry hit big shots, Posey ha hit big shots.

It would be amusing to watch him jump from team to team and they all win chips with him.

He doesn't seem like a player that will significantly decline in 2 years. I don't know, but I think he's a throw-back player in the Horry mold who can still impact a team in the last year of his contract; maybe longer.

Think it's a stupid deal by the hornets.

We were right NOT to sign posey to a mid level long term contract last season.

Yes he had a good season and we needed him but he's going to decline pretty quickly.

He's now 31, he's contracted to 35. Wing players don't last that long.

Crazy move;

Wing players don't last that long. Post players don't last that long. Small guys don't last that long. Big guys don't last that long. Physical players don't last that long. Phyness players don't last that long.

Well, who actually last a long time in the NBA?

I guess it depends on who ya talk to.

Note: Forgive the rant. It's just that within the last 24 hours, I've heard about 3 different types of players not lasting that long in the NBA.

Yeah its ridiculous. Id say Posey is just the type of player that should be effective for awhile in the league. His game is built more off of hustle and shooting than it is athleticism and explosiveness. If he eventually takes conditioning more seriously he can have an Horry type of career.
