The owners are just posturing with the threat of the loss of the MLE for teams over the tax.

The more than the rich owners spend, the more money the poorer owners get in their luxury tax share and the more they save (if the Lakers/Knicks/Mavs pay more of the BRI share, the other teams get to pay less).

If the spending of the top spending teams gets reigned in, then the owners who care more about money will have to pay a lot more and get a lot less.

The owners can't be crying poverty and then overlook something like this, which could be as much as a 10 mil a year swing per team per year.
