BBall Breakdown: Heat vs. Magic 2/13/12

Post#1 » by OtW » Fri Mar 16, 2012 1:05 am

*Mods, if this is not thread worthy, please move it to where it is appropriate*

I know many of you are not fans of Coach Nick, but I found this breakdown to be quite disturbing and informative at the same time, hence why I am posting it here.

This breakdown shows how a team like ORL is able to fully take advantage of our over aggressive defense, among other things. I think you all should watch this video. We lost similarly to Chicago, by the three pointer (and JL III going off).

Our defense can sometimes be overrated IMO...

when they force tough shots, okay. But being over aggressive for no reason also lost us in the FInals, resulting in 3's. And oh look... Orlando loves to hit 3's. Doesn't help with Dwight in.

I think if the Heat aren't careful, we can be knocked out by the Magic, just because we're so stubborn to not cover the 3 point shooters, but to double Dwight...

the offense has become ugly, and the bench players aren't helping. I don't know what happened, they didn't look so confused before. They seem to be playing more iso's since the break... resulting in Wade and LBJ trying to barrel in or something, or take a tough shot.

We play the Magic again on Sunday.

I think they double Wade and LBJ, resulting in the role players just standing around and waiting for the ball and they brick it anyway. Bench gotta step up.

All you have to do is step back and watch the team from a basketball perspective, not as a fan of the team. Our players on defense expend a lot of unnecessary energy on defense as apposed to other teams. The Chicago game is a perfect example, just watch how our opponents play us, and we have three of the top players in the league.

It's fairly simple and I am going to use my famous line here, "when it works, continue until it doesn't work" but when it doesn't work, don't continue to use it.

1. The fact that LBJ can guard all 5 positions means nothing if we lose the game
2. The fact that Joel is our more efficient defender(by heat standards) means nothing, if we lose the game

In the Chicago game, we did not use our talents to the best of our abilities, we lost the game to CJ Watson/and another guy, not Deng, Boozer or Noah.

I am personally jealous of other teams spirit and "team energy" we just look like business men, so stoic, no fun, expecting to win. I am just personally disappointed in the way we lost to Chicago/Orlando.

Win this Year or Bust For Me...I don't give a sh@t who comes and goes.

LOL the redick rule... pretty good video but JJ was just havin an off night. He's probably magic's third best ball handler, which I know isn't saying much, but he's not quite as bad as the video suggests.

Ryan Anderson however...

Our defense should basically refuse easy layups and give up few to no 3s.

Most teams that beat us go off on 3s, for the life of me how can you lose the same way everytime and keep doing the same thing?

We also are too small to get out hustled. I remember the first game in ecf against the bulls they were bigger than us but the other games we crashed the boards and got it done.

That's what needs to be done. Bosh needs to step up or hes gonna be crying again this year

This time, the tool actually has a point, as our defensive scheme was exposed on multiple occasions in both the Chicago and the Orlando game. We sort of live and by the other team's three-point shooting percentage and when another team is on fire and has good offensive rebounders and size to go with it, it's gonna be hard for us to win unless we use a ton of energy. This is where good and great coaches seperate themselves from one another. Good coaches have the ability to install a good system for a team and thus will win you a good amount of regular season games and take you as far in the playoffs as the matchups dictate it. Great coaches, on the other hand, are capable of adapting their system to any given opponent, which I still haven't seen from Spo and is really the one quality he lacks in my opinion.

Offensively, we just need some outside shooting. You can post-up and drive as much as you want, life will always be difficult for D-Wade and LeBron when we don't hit any threes. Notice how the Magic were always able to help out on drives, post-ups and thus could play those two tightly just because our role players on the wing couldn't punish them. All the ball and man movement in the world isn't gonna help you as long as you can't space the floor.

With Miller going down, Chalmers being in a slump since the All-Star break and Battier's inconsistency from downtown, we need JJ out there. If the lack of bench production in the Chicago game has shown you anything, then it's the need for a change.

Is that the only thing the "tool" has right? How about yo boy Wade's defense??? A lot of people said I over exaggerated Wade's laziness in the Dwight thread, but just watch that second highlight he showed and guess who's man that is streaking past Wade and gets the open shot? Now the guy in video blames Chalmers, but that's Wade's man and Wade goes to the wrong man while he's in his homerun trot!!! Look at the on ball pressure JJ, the so-called worst perimeter defender we have is putting on the ball and then look at Wade's on ball pressure on Reddick. Yeah all the stuff I just said about Wade is in the this breakdown. But it's just me though...

And the lil strut after Wade hit the three...classic!

Dude they all got exposed on defense that night, holy **** you're annoying.

Hedo,Q-rich made wide open 3s-LeBron's man
Anderson get so many put backs and open 3s-Bosh
Jameer absolutely torched Chalmers
and Obviously Dwight.

Jesus Christ just let it go already, every superstar is lazy sometimes and everybody was lazy in the past two games. I clearly remember Hedo **** Turkoglu blowing past LeBron or Ryan Anderson getting past Bosh and UD multiple times for offensive rebounds. Your accusations went far beyond that and were extremely irrational though. You seriously need to see a therapist to discuss your Wade obsession with him, my God.

Magic fan here

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1162991&start=120

Last post on that page I basically sum up the video on why the magic would have a shot at beating the Heat.
The next page one of you guys reply and so on and so forth.

Would be an interesting match-up in the 2nd round IF the Magic are able to beat who ever they face in the 1st (which is doubtful if they play Atlanta or Boston).

Good luck going forward.

To be honest i could see the Magic beating us in the playoffs. I know we have more tallent but once again its on Spo to use it properly and to freaking adapt when things aren't working.

Return to Miami Heat
