Micky Arison explains the Big3 party

Post#1 » by Pimpwerx » Fri May 25, 2012 10:31 pm

He was on the Lebatard Show today. You can find the audio if you go here:

http://www.790theticket.com/lebatard.aspx

Scroll down to the 790 On Demand section and it will be labeled "Micky Arison - Miami Heat owner - 5-25-12". Stugotz asks him the question at around the 8:10 mark, and Micky explains how it went down, and why it was the way it was.

Brief synopsis: They planned the celebration for 2, initially. It was supposed to be for Wade + PF, and they just wanted to do something bigger than what they did for the Shaq signing. They didn't know Lebron was gonna be part of it until shortly before the party, and by then it was too late to change anything. He said they shouldn't have had cameras and should have controlled the interview segment better, but it is what it is.

People in Miami get it, but I don't think many others do. PEACE.

Heard the i/view - pretty interesting.

Personally don't care what the party was planned for - because as a HEAT fan, I LOVED every second of it!

YES. WE. DID.

I think the explanation of having something bigger than Shaq's welcoming party for Wade resigning reflects how the Arison family and the entire organization feel about him. It shows earlier in the interview already when he blasted all the Wade trade demands after game 3. I'm not from Miami but understand the magnitude of the summer of 2010 for the Heat organization and most likely for South Florida Sports as well. It's just finally being on the map with those elite organizations, having pulled off this historical free agent move. After the quick downfall after the '06 championship, we understood we had a potential dynasty coming together right here and thus needed to celebrate it accurately. Did we say some silly stuff? Of course, but I never grasped the obsession people had with LeBron counting the potential championships we're gonna win. It was obviously an attempt to pump the fans up and get them excited and people seemed to take his words seriously and held it against him as a predicition. Regarding this, I liked how Micky addressed the part of the misguided perception the media has created of LeBron due to their one-sided, agenda-driven coverage, with the pushing of the "not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5..." being an essential part of it. People just need to let go off it and understand that this, next to the '06 championship, was the biggest moment of this franchise's and most likely the city's sports history.

I remember seeing the party on the news live on channel... 7? or 10 I don't remember. This was so big, I don't care what others thought about it. It was fun to watch and it was funny too. They said some silly things yeah, but in the end it was for fun and for the fans. People I think understand this but are taking jabs at the party just for another reason to hate the Heat.

I agree about the cameras... just have it for the locals and stuff. Though I think the Miami Herald and ESPN are partnered a bit so having a camera in there, I think ESPN would have gotten it anyway.

people forgot we had a party for Shaq.... and Shaq promised a championship to Miami. We lost but the very next year we came back and won. There wasn't even backlash because Shaq already had rings.

anyway, I hope history repeats itself.

It was interesting LBJ signed the contract then went on stage, LMAOO!!!!!

I loved it. It was awesome and I wish I was there! lol F everybody else cause you know what? They were all sitting at their TVs watching that **** too wishing it was them. Just go back and read some of the "game threads" about the event. Just like "The Decision", they say one thing now but they were doing something completely different at the time

At the end of the day it's why they hound every Heat thread. You know the usual fanbases. Same ones that was texting me yesterday when they thought the Heat would lose game 6 in the first qtr lol

The Heat don't owe a single apology for that event. I watched it live online and it was one of my favorite experiences as a Heat fan. One of the most exciting moment in franchise history - the first time we saw the Big 3 all in Heat uniforms. The greatest free agent collection in the HISTORY OF MANKIND!

The questions and answers were meant for our fans. People who hate on it are simply grasping at straws. It doesn't surprise me though. Jokes about LeBron's hair, Wade's jaw, etc. I've even seen fans get annoyed that we call Mario Chalmers, "Rio" :talkhand:

Quite frankly, I couldn't give a shiz if others got it or not. I'm sure many others in Miami feel the same way. F the haters!

other teams are upset because they were scared of the three coming together. Who would care what one team does to pump themselves and their fans up? You'd figure the spectacle would be funny looking at it from the outside, not enraging.

 I honestly didn't care about the party. I say we do another one again in August even if we don't win the championship, just for reactions.

Come on Micky, do it again!
