if they get him i hope he sits the entire year just rehabbing and strengthening his knees. He's a top 5 center in the league right now despite not playing much, so he needs to solely concentrate on his health and not trying to play.

They basically did that with Eddy Curry. He got paid to live in Miami, and to get trained for a whole year by the Top Trainers of the World. Greg Oden is a bigger investment. He is 24 years old, stronger and can help Miami more if everything turns out well. Miami should definitely make a gamble maybe in January and sign him and just train him till the end of the season. Hopefully he gets significant gains and signs with Miami for 2 seasons

Oden doesn't need anyone to sign him to pay for his treatments and rehab. He made millions. He can do it himself if he is really serious about coming back to the NBA.

This whole discussion is pathetic and is only a sign of how bad the Center situation in the NBA is. If this were a Guard........

My thoughts on Oden are that he's done but if he can play and Miami does sign him Miami should limit his play to 5-6 minutes a game tops. Just enough to keep him in shape and get him comfortable with yhe team's play. Then when the playoffs roll around unleash the beast!

Does anybody know if Oden signing with Miami would end up costing Portland money? My understanding with the Brandon Roy situation was his signing with Minnehaha was going to in some way force Portland to have to pay part of his salary. Does the same go for Greg?

No. I'm guessing that was because he still had money on their books when he retired. Oden is a UFA.

I don't care what his people say, he won't be playing this season. I'd be surprised if he even dresses a game. You don't come back from one microfracture in less than a year, let alone two, let alone when you're Greg Oden.
