Miami has one of the greatest training staffs in the NBA, probably second only to Phoenix, but this guy clearly doesn't care about having a healthy long career, just being the closest possible to home so when he shatters his knees again the crawl home isn't that far

If he's going for the money, the chances of him ever becoming a healthy, solid roleplayer in the league are pretty slim. You can't blame him for going for the money if that's his last NBA contract.

It just seems like if he came here, his career would be longer so he'd make up whatever money he didn't get in one year, in two to three..

He goes to Cleveland, gets a one year contract, then gets injured like 3 months later

or

He comes to Miami, gets a one year contract, actually gets healthy and survives a year of basketball, and more than likely gets an extension and makes up for whatever money he isn't making?

I don't know, I'm thinking strictly from a winning thought process, but even that thought process seems to produce more money than the the former

That's my point, the doctors might've informed him that the chances of his knees lasting a whole season are very slim, so he goes the safe way and cashes in on one last payday with the equal chance of receiving playing time rather than having the same risk for a minimum salary. If he can play for an entire season, he might cash in later, but if he doesn't, he'd be stuck on a minimum salary with us rather than the 4 mil the Cavs reportedly offered. If he proves to be able to stay healthy, he can still come to Miami later.

If he'd sign to a 2yr deal with a team option, I'd sign him and dump Varnado for him. Jarvis won't play meaningful minutes anyway, so I'd let Oden soak in some of the atmosphere of the organization, while rehabbing. Then again, maybe his rehab isn't going so great. His problems aren't a small deal. PEACE.
