I'll say this

Streak + Championship > Just the championship

Don't know where else to post this and I didn't feel like starting a thread, but Brian WIndworst says the Heat are invested in the winning streak. You guys agree or no? I think if they were really invested in it, they would play with more urgency in the first half.

I saw him say it on TV but he has an article on it

http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/miamih ... -streaking
Sometime last week, whether it was during the postgame dinner after No. 18 or the 3 a.m. arrival in Philadelphia after No. 19 or the plane ride to Milwaukee after No. 20, perspective broke its way into the Miami Heat's consciousness.

It's gripped them ever since, a reality that's gone from a once laughable afterthought to a consuming force. It leaves them screaming at each other in the huddle because they're down 13 points in the fourth quarter. It will not let them let go. This is real.

Teams aren't supposed to feel this way until the playoffs, when it isn't about the money or the numbers and it becomes about reputations and rings and legacies. The Heat are the defending champs and the regular season is but a long, slow dance before the race. But not now, now they feel it, now they are emotionally and historically invested.

Let me put it to you this way:

1) Most people only talk about the Lakers winning streak record when some team gets close to 18 or 19 wins in a row which is very rare, other than that, nobody really remembers or talks about it. (How did that work out for the Rockets)

2) People know the Lakers, Celtics and Bulls as dynasties that won multiple championships. That gets talked about everyday in the basketball world. People remember champions, not runner ups but champions. The one place where you can stand alone at the top without caring that anyone will match or break it. You are it.

It is nice to experience this winning streak for however long it takes us. If it means beating the record, that will be something else to brag about, but this season will mean nothing unless we add another trophy in June. Champions, that is something truly to brag about. Engraved for life.

Someone wins the title every year. The history of the NBA is littered with back to backs and 3-peats too. But one team in the history of the sport has won 33 games in a row (and they were the only team to win 23 too before Miami did). If the Heat break the record it is undoubtedly more historically impressive than winning a title is in and of itself. But of course, the streak without the title turns the streak into a punchline. It's not fair, it's not right, it's just the culture we live in. This doesn't have to be an either/or though, barring injury Miami should win the title. I'm more confident in them doing that than breaking the streak.

And i love that they're going for it. I don't mind them pushing themselves minutes wise and going to more of a playoff like rotation on some nights to sustain this streak. I don't think it compromises their main goals in any way. I think they'll get plenty of rest during the course of the Eastern Conference playoffs, when they're making quick work of teams in a down conference and waiting for other series to end. They are just multiple universes above anyone on the East

I think the win streak is a bigger achievement, but its not rewarded. Its much tougher to win the most games ever than it is to win a championship. Now this topic is not about would you rather have the streak instead of the chip. Its just what is a tough goal to accomplish.

You don't get rings for a winning streak...
