It may seem odd that I want a guy who sucks at basketball (again as an UNDRAFTED guy) but I think it is worth a camp invite.

He just set the combine record for vertical and no step vertical. He had one of the fastest sprint times of all time. He just set the record for highest max vertical reach of all time. Meaning he can jump up and touch the highest point even though he is only 6'5. The old record was by Shaq. He has the same wingspan as Lebron despite being a lot shorter.

The thing is he can't play basketball yet. We would really need to teach him pretty much from scratch. The hope would be we could turn him into a super athletic 3 and D SF. Will probably need a lot of NBDL time.

I think its worth a camp invite.

I'd rather see the Dolphins sign him than the Heat. He's obviously a great athlete with good coordination, body control and hands. Could be a great redzone-specialist WR. Throw him lobs and fades in the endzone against 5-11 CBs.

I don't understand why NFL team don't target more undrafted basketball players. They've seen what guys with basketball backgrounds can do at tight end (Gates, Gonzalez, Graham). This guy isn't as big as them but he is faster and he can jump higher. He literally got his hands higher than every basketball player who has ever been measured. There is no way any defender can get anywhere near as high as that.

I like Snaer, for what it's worth. But best case scenario, we stash him in the D-League or Europe. Norris Cole is going to be the youngest guy on our roster unless we buy a pick for Hardaway.

Most likely, our roster is going to be exactly the same as last year, simply replacing Juwan with a legitimate center.

I don't think anyone here disagrees with anything here.

Having said that you have to invite extra guys to camp anyway so you might as well try for the best of the leftover guys and hope to get lucky.

We've seen 2nd round and undrafted guys make it before so its not impossible, just unlikely.

Riley said after the top 10-12 picks he's not sure if there's that player out there. Olynyk? Dieng? Nogueira? Withey? Along with shabazz hardaway jr and bullock. I think there are multiple players that would make this roster better.

I think that's the same as when the team line was we don't need anyone who is available, right before we picked up Andersen and then it became we have wanted him all along.

If we buy a pick or get a guy they'll say they wanted him all along and was so happy he fell.

I think Dieng/Withey would be nice to have to throw at hibbert/D12/other but can't imagine Miami doing anything extra to get either of them.

I agree. I've been saying it for years. The NFL has become incredibly specialized and its all about the red zone where a tall guy with great athleticism and decent hands can dominate. There are a bunch of these guys every year who have incredible length and leaping ability but not great basketball skills or instincts. I have usually thought about using guys who were more like 6-9 or 6-10 in that role, as there are a bunch of those guys with coordination, body control, hands and leaping ability who would be almost literally uncoverable by a 5-11 or 6-0 CB under the NFL's current contact rules. Stephens is actually a little short for what I have envisioned, although his wingspan and leaping ability makes up for it. With a little practice, I think it would be almost unstoppable in the red zone even if the guy can't ever develop into a true all-around WR or TE.
