"A Year Older"

Post#1 » by MiamiRadio » Tue Oct 29, 2013 7:18 pm

Tell me if im crazy but, I keep hearing this narrative that the Heat are "A year older" and yes that is definitely true but, like did something happen that I dont know of that time froze for the rest of the league and we are the only team who aged? Like did other teams not get a year older also?? Now yes ppl will refer to Ray Allen, Battier, Wade when making that argument, but we also have young guys in their prime, Chalmers, Lebron, Bosh, Cole. Like did David West not Age? Boozer? Deng? Hinrich? etc. These people are so desperate to find something about this heat team to use as an argument against us, and if its something that has merit then I will gladly listen but this "One year older" crap bring it up to me in '16 if we still have the same roster and i'll listen.

Because if you say David West is old you might get 11 people to read your article. If you say Joakim Noah and Carol Bozzer are injury prone you might get 12. But if you say the Heat aren't winning a title because Dwade is old/injury prone you get a lot more buzz.

I think of it as we're older and the younger teams might be entering their primes or something along those lines. It would make no sense to say "Miami is a year older, watch out for the Spurs...". I see it as a way to prop up a team Like OKC or Indiana or something along those lines.

it's a pretty poor analysis to be honest.

the spurs have gotten it literally four years in a row, I feel pretty bad for them and their fans. the Celtics used to get it too.

also i'd be willing to bet the majority of championship teams are in the older half the league when it comes to the average age of the team's players. experience, discipline, chemistry are all things that get better with age and are necessary to win a championship. even when your legs slow a little you can still fall back on those things and find success as a team.

No point in trying to make sense out of media narratives. Their goal is to get attention, not to be smart or logical.

And after all the gibberish that has been thrown around, 80% of ESPN "experts" still choose the heat to win it all :

So whatever. No need to pay much attention to any of it.

You know what's funny about Ray and Shane? Yeah they are a year older, will retire after this season, but their job is to shoot 3's. It's not like they expend energy like LBJ and Wade.

Ray does some running around, Shane (isn't his fault though) has to guard PF's at times, but they are mostly there for their shooting. If you can shoot, your age doesn't matter. Ray is a prime example of that.

But this is the problem with news in general that is 24/7. People need something to talk about. Negativity gets more views than positivity...

Ray can keep playing another year or two. Shane will probably want to retire after this year, because he's clearly lost a step. Ray's game is ageless though.

The core of the team may be a year older, but it's still in its prime. We're fine.
