Looking at him against SA last night, he still has enough size/strength for the four. Being leaner has clearly made him quicker on both ends. Love how easily/high he got up for that block and that baseline dunk. He chucked a lot in the 4th, but last night got me really excited about the Beasley possibilities.

I liked what I saw from Beasley vs SA, though I only saw ~1/2 the game. When he was last with us I thought he held the ball way too much. Now you can tell he's trying to be quick with it, which is a huge step up in approach. But you can also tell IMO that he's worried about doing the wrong thing (probably b/c he doesn't have security in getting a rotation spot) and that recognizing what's "right" is not instinctual. That'll come with time though. The important thing is that his head is in the right place.

Beas is looking wiry strong, I think his weight is close to ideal. He's just as big and long as Battier but he's much faster and more athletic. He has the physical tools to guard most PF's, that not his issue. His issue is staying focused 100% of the time, always playing hard and devloping a better defensive awareness. He's in a system that will help achive that, and from the small sample size we saw it really looks like he's trying and focusing on being a good defender.
That block he made on the fast break was an awesome defensive play, it shows what he can do when his mind is right. Also he fought for some rebounds and loose ball and earned us a few possessions.

A guy i think he could emulate to a degree is Thaddeus Young, also not a big PF but a very quick one that can score and hold his own on defense and overall an above average PF in the NBA. Beas actually has a better jump shot and could hit 3's too, he just needs to improve his decision making and get more comfortable.

The key with Beas going forward will be giving him minutes, i really hope Spo gives as much playing time as possible so he could get loose and learn the things he needs to improve on.

In terms of creating a shot for himself, he's already the third best on the roster ATM IMO. The rest of his game needs to catch up. If he gets more well rounded we got a big steal with him.

I've always thought that Beasleys best position is the 4. He can move to the 3 at time but his advantage is his quickness and overall scoring ability. When you move him to the 3, he becomes slower and more limited. As a few have stated, Beasley looks nervous to me right now. The guy is trying to make the smart play and play within the offense, once he settles down, he could be a huge signing for us down the road. One thing I've notice is Spo is putting him along with Bird, which is great as Birds energy can help Beasley.

If I do recall, he did play some 4 effectively the first time he was with the Heat.

That is what I thought, but didn't want to make the assumption as fact due to my feeble memory. He was the second best player on this team that went to the playoffs while playing the 4.

100% I could never figure out why other tried to turn him into a 3. Beasley is a 4/3 not a 3/4.

Heat have plenty players that could play the 3, but a scoring "4" is something the Heat could use. Perhaps, this is part of the plan, Riley's diabolical plan.

I think I understand Roger Mason's role with the team now. Sometimes the little things like what Juwan Howard did for players off the court are ENORMOUS as far as the big picture are concerned. Beasley hit a huge shot to give us some more breathing room late in the fourth last night, but had to be benched in favor of a defensive stop. It wasn't favoritism necessarily, it was a matchup matter.

But look carefully. Roger Mason is talking to Beasley on his way back to the bench. What I believe is happening there is Mason is giving Beasley what he needs to hear regarding the big picture. This team is all about buying into and trusting a specific system almost as much as it is about talent. Beasley is still being coached about accepting this system, that being benched after such a big shot shouldn't be viewed a slight against him, but that he accomplished a task and the coach is making an adjustment for the good of the team.

I love veterans in that role.
