For the Heat's MLE??? Josh McRoberts!!! *POLL*

Post#1 » by Hoops23 » Mon Jun 30, 2014 3:04 am

Before the finals, I already said here that the Heat will operate below the lux tax. Without a doubt they feel it coz they trade Joel and amnestied Miller. Plus its ideal to get below the tax and exceed it next season instead.

I doubt the Heat will use part of their cap space to acquire another quality free agent because I assume the Big 3 will sign a starting annual salary at $18m ($54m in total) plus UD, Cole and Napier plus the salary of 2 players, that takes away the cap space.

Then its highly probable the Heat will use the mid level exception, maybe around $5.2m.

Which player in your mind the Heat should pursue for that amount??? IMO, PG....

I like Lowry for the MLE but is he willing to take a pay cut! Bledsoe is RFA....

Yeah, its most likely the Heat will use the MLE than cap space.... Heat better be off the lux tax to get the higher MLE..

PG is the need position, and they better make a hard push for Lowry. If they failed on Lowry or Bledsoe, it will be better for them to keep Chalmers than make a lateral move.

If they miss on adding the likes of Lowry, then the MLE is better of with a BIG man or the best player available that can provide offense to help LBJ. Gasol, Hawes or Boozer (if amnestied)... Maybe Evan Turner to add depth at SG.

I don't really subscribe to the theory we need a point guard.

We need:

1. To improve the defensive system - I have seen us torched from beyond the arc time and time again and this even pre-dates the 'big 3' (Spo's system leaves us exposed here) Part of this solution may be to add some perimeter defenders, if Wade can't handle guys like Green and Napier isn't an upgrade for us at PG.

2. To rebound better. Either by playing Bosh closer to the basket, or by adding size / rebounders. Check out this:
http://www.teamrankings.com/nba/stat/to ... percentage - we're 29th in rebounding

Based on that, I'd go for the best player available. It might be a guy like Spencer Hawes, PJ Tucker, Shawn Marion, but realistically we just go for the BPA and make the pieces fit later on. And I'm comfortable with taking the BPA because I don't think there's anyone (affordable) that's an exceptional fit. The PG crop are either good shooters (Mo Will) or good defenders (Livingston) but not both. The perimeter defenders are either good 3&D but bad ball handlers (Thabo) or good shooters but bad defenders (Nick Young). At SF, you either limit your spacing with Marion, or take a chance on someone past it like Granger... or Mike Miller again. In the front court, those strengths and weaknesses are equally pronounced.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

Who knows Gasol will take a pay cut....

Deng, Lowry, Bledsoe is worth more than the MLE.

Players like Hawes, Evan Turner and Ariza or Sessions might worth the heats MLE.

Hawes adds depth at the frontline who can stretch the defense while Turner can provide offense.

Meeks was actually a solid defender in LA, not very athletic but a great 3pt shooter and high percentage from the rest of the court. He is only 26 years old. I like him for our bench.

Am I wrong or do the Heat not have an MLE because they are under the cap after the big 2.5 opted out of their contracts?

The Heat has the MLE, either they exceed or not the lux tax next season.

Last season the MLE is $5.15m, while for tax payers is $3.18m and $2.65m for cap roomers.

This coming season, the Heat will most likely have the full MLE bec. I believe they will not be a tax payer.

And the MLE goes to a bif man (McRoberts)
Looks like Riley failed to convince bigger names such as Gasol, Deng and Melo. I thought Miami's MLE is better of with Hawes if big man is their need.

With the Heat using the MLE, then they retain the rights to sign Chalmers, Allen and Anderson by avoiding using the cap space. More likely, just like I said, Heat will not exceed pay the lux tax nest season.
