Tampering?

Three years ago, Gilbert says he "started to hear rumblings that this could be possible," that James had thoughts about someday making a return to the Cavaliers. Gilbert couldn't stop talking about Paul and Carter, about how they were the conduits to make it all work again.

Not sure if this was addressed elsewhere. It may be a long shot and the links may be difficult to prove, but wouldn't this merit a tampering investigation. A subpoena of phone records would be a clear indication of an owner working with the representatives of a player under contract to another team to get that player. Not sure how that is any different from the Knicks charges against the Heat in the Riley tampering case. That resulted in a $1M fine and forfeiture of a first round pick. Worth pursuing?

The Cavs did it the same way the Heat did it ... by using an intermediary who was linked to both teams. In this case it was Rich Paul who's Tristan Thompson's agent. Last time, it was when the big-3 all signed up under CAA.

If the Heat want to accuse the Cavs of tampering, they'll have to face themselves in the mirror first ... and then go on to explain the short-lived #23 retirement crusade, or the talks with Arison's son at the Team USA.
