You might be confusing this with the Lakers situation. The Lakers have 3 players out for the season which grants them to add another one to their roster, considering you can only have 2 inactive guys every game and they have 3

Now with the Heat, yes McBob is out but he will be one of the two suits and that doesn't change anything. HOWEVER, the DPE grants a new player to come in when we are over the cap. The DPE doesn't allow an extra player into the roster, but it allows a new player to come in for more than the vet min. The DPE at 2.65mil (can be half of what McBob is making) can attract players for sure as opposed to offering them the 1mil vet min.

The only reason you are releasing a player is so they can use that contract on the roster with the new guy. If the Heat do use it, depending on who joins, JHam or Dawkins is gone. I would think Heat use the DPE for a big, so JHam could be gone. Hopefully lol

smith at the 4 with bosh at the 5 is basically an upgraded version of those playoff hawks teams but now with the added bonus of a guy known as dwyane wade and luoul deng. if by some mircacle mcbob can make it back by playoff time the heat can set themselves up as a major darkhorse in the east.

people on here say picking up smith would make us a treadmill team. what exactly are we now? bosh and wade are not spring chickens anymore we cannot waste wades last good years having him play with the likes of cole/hamilton/williams..... if we have a chance to acquire smith on the cheap its a no brainer. i really hope this move comes through for us

If your team takes an injured player exception in your name you are out for the season and cannot return even if you get fully healthy. Can't have McBob and Smith both this season anymore.

Huh? :-? Pretty sure this is my first post on this topic. I was simply pointing out the fact that McBob can't come back this season even if he gets fully healthy and didn't feel like making a separate post for a tweet which I just saw. All this losing here has sure made some folks sensitive.

Edit: I saw his post. Seems like we have conflicting information and I remember reading somewhere that when you take the injury exception thing the player can't come back, I remember that from Brook Lopez last year, I will double check.

Double Edit: I stand corrected but I swear I read somewhere that Brook Lopez was ineligible to return last season. Will double verify.

Yeah, definitely not me since that was my first post related to Smith on this forum lol. I am though split 65-35 against him. He has potential but I see some Beasley in him. Beasley was gun shy with us last year, Smith is the opposite. Either way it wouldn't bother me that much if we only take him for 2 years. It's not like we are a top 4 team and can't afford to disrupt chemistry.

I'd take him for the vet min. Not a penny more.

Sources: Josh Smith to Rockets

Wanting to play for a winning team with a chance to win the title, Josh Smith has decided to join the Houston Rockets, sources told ESPN.com's Chris Broussard on Wednesday.

The veteran forward, let go Monday by the Detroit Pistons less than halfway into his four-year, $54 million contract, cleared waivers Wednesday.

The Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat, Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies all had been listed as potential suitors for Smith's services.

The Rockets next take the court against the host Grizzlies at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Houston is three games behind Golden State in the Western Conference standings and just a half-game behind Memphis for the 3 seed.

As ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported late Tuesday, Houston ‎assured Smith that he would start if he joined the Rockets, which essentially clinched his decision.

The Rockets also had their biannual exception, valued at $2.1 million, to offer Smith, who is 29.

Sources said Wednesday that Smith made it known that he would only consider teams that would guarantee him a starting spot, which essentially made it a choice between Houston and Miami.

Houston center Dwight Howard also could have played a factor in Smith's decision. Howard, one of Smith's closest friends, played AAU basketball with Smith in Atlanta

Smith is averaging 13.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game this season.

Smith will be playing for coach Kevin McHale, who signed a three-year extension on Wednesday.

Oh wow we might have had more of a chance to grab him that I thought

he has told people he would only go to teams where he'd start, reducing his options to MIA and HOU. Essentially picking HOU though, and I'm sure its to play with Dwight AND they are contenders

but we were close lmao

glad it aint happen though

No surprise he chose to play with one of his boys on a better team.

I'm not a fan, but I was gathering a bit of enjoyment in thinking of the possibility of him signing here, growing annoyed with Spo's bull**** and jacking him up on the sideline.
