should the all star game should be moved?

Post#1 » by eddieheatfan » Mon Jan 19, 2015 5:22 pm

ok guys i have been thinking about this for awhile now and i think that the all-star game should not be in the middle of the season.i know its a tradition and all but we cant judge the production of players just in mid-season because there is always the potential for a player to improve later on or get worse.also keep in mind that most major sports here in america have their "all-stars" after their season.so, i know that nba players have a grueling 82 games plus post season for those who make it but i would mind seen something lets say in july or even august?? what do you guys think??<------

NFL Pro-Bowl: 1 week before the Superbowl (end of season)
MLB All-star game: According to Wikipedia (since I ain't a baseball fan), "the game usually occurs on either the second or third Tuesday in July, and is meant to mark a symbolic halfway-point in the MLB season" (mid season)
NHL All-star weekend: Pretty much the same as the NBA, sometime in Feb (mid season)

So yeah, two of three other major sport leagues in Northern America hold there events in the middle of the season as well. Pretty much just commented to say this because you said, "also keep in mind that most major sports here in america have their "all-stars" after their season"

Don't know much about the MLS, but from some quick research, they don't have two all-star teams that play each other. So even if you count MLS as a major sport, it's kinda hard to use it in comparison.

As for your other point... yeah, the all-star games don't judge there whole seasons as the all-star game is roughly half of the season (A bit after), but the three All-NBA teams judge the players entire seasons

Its really not about the game itself. Its like spring break. NFL has bye weeks so they can get away with having the probowl at the end. For every other sport to have their Allstar game at the end of their respective season would be horrible for players/coaches.

All-Star break isn't at all about anything to do with competitiveness... (Which is obvious by now) More to do with relaxing and resting your bodies through the halfway point of the season. The players who play in the AS game usually have fun and play around (Also for recruiting purposes :P) with festivities and (the fans) looking forward to the players that have been tearing it up the first half the season (Dunks, 3pnt specialists, Skills etc..)

In terms of money, NBA would generate a lot more during half way point of the season IMO. Beginning of the season... you really don't know whos hot and who isn't, well you do get an idea by prior of the season but it isn't fresh in your mind like half way point of the season.
