#2 is blatantly unofficially retired.

Post#1 » by Oosh » Sun Feb 22, 2015 9:16 am

Every time a player comes to our team who is likely to take #2 they don't.

It's so obvious that the no. is unofficially retired to Keith Askins.

I wonder what they say to the players when they request it?

Not upset about this or anything but just thought I would point it out to anyone who didn't notice.

I would hate to think that we're retiring numbers for guys like Askins.

Askins is probably the very first true definition of "HEAT Lifer"; with that said, why not just retire the number then?

Why? He's done everything for this organization on and off the court.

Because he wasn't that good. He was a nice role player, but retiring numbers is an honor that should be reserved for only the greatest players.

Are people seriously trying to justify retiring Askins' number? I like the guy and he exemplifies a lot of the Heat culture but he's nowhere near deserving of having his number retired. He was never part of a championship team and he totaled 1,852 points in his career.

Come on now.

If skill on the court is the only reason for retiring numbers than yes, you can't retire his number. If you value things people do the for organization on and off the court then he has a case.

You shouldn't retire his number in that situation. Retire his Armani suit.
