@PBPjasonlieser

I joked with Whiteside about having only 6 assists last year and he just kinda looked at me. So that seems to be not that funny to him.

This was what the Heat wanted from him.....to dunk and block. Wade told him to "Block Everything" lol.

I'm sure this season they will help make Hassan a more rounded player. Once we get some chemistry & continuity his assists will increase. I'd love to see him give out some sweet dishes too.
If u don't want 2b here, the way things work, u don't like it, then don't b here. U have 2 stand on something. If Miami ain't standing on something, they become alot of these organizations trying 2 find their identity. This is the culture, bro -Wade

I mean how many assist are you supposed to get when the team would only give him 3 or 4 post entries a game. Everything else were put back from offensive boards. The entire team was dead last in assist last year, yet the one guy who shot over 60% & rarely got to touch the rock last season is the one catching all the heat for a lack of passing.

Summer school is in as Heat’s Hassan Whiteside aims to improve

Joseph Goodman | Miami Herald
July 3, 2015

Hassan Whiteside does not want to talk about passing the ball. Why pass the ball when you can dunk the ball, right?

As he gladly will tell you, the Heat’s second-year center is a proficient dunker of the basketball, and he enjoys it.

“Dunking on people,” as he first stated when he joined the Heat, was more or less his singular offensive focus last season, and he still likes talking about his affinity for dunks months later.

As for passing, what’s the big deal? He’s not a point guard. Sure, Whiteside had just six assists in 48 games last season, but, like he said Friday, “A lot of times I think the assists can be deceiving.”

“A lot of times, I was dunking the ball, or I was three feet from the basket,” Whiteside said. “I mean, I like how you didn’t mention the field-goal percentage, but I’ll take that.”

In other words, one more question about passing and you, too, might get dunked on.

It’s Whiteside’s swaggering attitude and aggressive nature around the rim that earned him a second chance in the NBA last year, and that same set of skills catapulted him into the starting lineup for a desperate Heat team. It’s assumed that Whiteside’s uncommon abilities at 7-feet tall will make him a very rich man next summer.

Whether or not it’s the Heat that pays Whiteside remains to be seen, and that might have a lot to do with how much he develops this season. After all the twists and turns of his young career, Whiteside is back on track and entering a contract year.

His ability to pass out of the post probably won’t decide his future, but a willingness to learn could be important.

So far, he’s putting in the work...

When you shoot over 60 percent from the field, passing the ball to someone else unless they have a dunk, is a low iq basketball play.

Rather than ask Hassan about his assist total, I'd like to ask our coaches about the low amount of post entry passes we gave to someone who obviously has the footwork and touch to be a force on the block.

It's not like Hassan operates in the midpost and was a high volume post scorer. Deandre barely averages any assists, Drummond averages .5 for his career so far. Hassan has some nice post moves too unlike those two guys. If he becomes dominant enough scoring on the block, the assist #'s will go up. I like that he could play the Tyson Chandler/ Deandre role pretty well but also capable of feeding him down low. That's a pretty dangerous skillset.

Tell that to Shaq

I love Hassan a lot, but it is a clear weakness in his game. Guys will pass the ball more to him if they think he can also generate easy opportunities for others, especially when he's double teamed.

The passing out of the low post is what made guys like Horry and Fisher extremely dangerous

Otherwise he's a blackhole and people will just pass when they run out of options or an alley oop.

He doesn't need to be a Gasol or Noah, just competent at reading the game.

look at this game, just simple plays that require awareness

Well....If Hassan stays the same, he will be a max player this year. Lets hope he doesn't get distracted. These deals this off-season are crazy.

if shaq only got the touches hassan got last year he wouldn't have passed it either. Once hassan is shooting over double teams I will say he should pass. Otherwise throw it down big man!

Hassan led the league in points per touch. Pretty much everytime he touched the ball he scored.
