Re: #3 pick for Justise Winslow
So who did the 76ers get with our pick? How lucky were we to move into the top 10 last year?

I believe it was Luwawu. The Sixers nailed their draft.

um, yeah. not quite understanding the "lol" here.
obviously i would take ingram over winslow. as would almost every GM (including probably riley).

ok dude lol. I'll just say, as a fan, I hope you're wrong. As an observer, I see a 17-19 ppg at best #2 option in Ingram who would struggle to find someone to guard. Winslow is already a playoff level rotation player who could grow into a 17,5,5 all defensive team staple. I think Ingram benefitted from a weak draft class and I don't think it's close between him and Simmons.

yeah...obviously as a heat fan you hope that. actually I do to as it means ingram was a bust and which makes the lakers worse.

being that you are a heat fan, I dont blame you for thinking this. unfortunately you are in a huge minority on this one.
wish you were right tho.
(btw if ingram is best case #2 option, does that imply winslow could be a #1 option?)

Re: #3 pick for Justise Winslow
Ingram indeed has higher "bustability" than Winslow, but to be fair he also has a much higher ceiling, albeit only offensively.

well, on a really good team, im not sure if either or likely to be a top guy. So no I don't confidently see Winslow as a #1. I think Ingram is clearly the superior isolation talent, however, not so much though that it warrants the expectations of a durant-esque scorer or enough to make up for his limitations as a rebounder and defender at the NBA level. Any time I watched him get by someone or toast someone one on one, it was always against 4&5's. I saw him struggle to get by more athletic guys and pick up his dribble too early way too often. He's super weak, but he's pretty aggressive though so I respect that.
Sure, Winslow hasn't earned respect for his jumper yet, which makes him a liability at times in half court offense. He needs to address that because he won't be able to showcase the rest of his offensive skill set at this level until he can force guys to guard up on him. I think he has potential to be a devasting slasher and slash and kick guy as well as a free throw machine. Not be able to shoot just lets guys sag off him and entices him into awkward drives at times. Hes gonna thrive as an opportunistic scorer in this league, and it didn't help his stats this year being a non offensive role player on a good playoff team. I think he could've had offensive numbers closer to what porzingis had as a top three option on a crappy team.
I just think Winslow is going to be more valuable and a better overall player with more positional versatility and will more ways to impact a game. I think I grams gonna be a good offensive player who you'll trust to get buckets but other than that not sure if I can pencil him in for more than maybe an athletic block once in a while on a defensive rotation that'll have people saying dude why don't you do that more often.
I just wasn't that crazy about Ingram. I feel like his stock rose because people needed someone else to talk about with Simmons struggling to maintain interest in college basketball success and as a guy with crazy measurables and a game reminiscent of kd Ingram was the natural choice. I never saw him and was like yo that guy is gonna be insane. I saw justise literally devour entire portions of games like a monster in college and thought to myself damn I wish the heat could pick in the top 5 to get this dude he plays like he was shot out of a cannon.

Re: #3 pick for Justise Winslow
I think Justise takes a big jump next year and averages something like 12 and 7. His shot will come around just like PGs and Leonard's to an extent

oh, didnt know mods were allowed to behave like this.
no worries. you can believe what youd like. but we all know the answer would be different in winslow wasnt in miami. of course riley will defend his player - totally understandable. but of the other 29 GMs, it would be a completely different story. no hate.
id be interested in seeing an unbiased poll on the realgm main board - ingram vs winslow.

Is what he said wrong? Aren't we all talking out of our anuses since we have no idea how these two will look in 3-4 years?
Also, LOL at something regarding the Heat on main board being unbiased.

it was pretty disrespectful for a mod. i didnt know we were allowed to post like that here. but now that I know, no worries.

however my statement was far closer to being right than his.

Re: #3 pick for Justise Winslow
Perception wise - Ingram has a higher celling then Justise.
Tools wise - Ingram again has a higher celling then Justise.
Reality wise - No one can tell you today how much each of them will improve in the next 4 years. Odds are Ingram turns out better, but Justise has a chance.
Dion Waiters was supposed to be better then Khris Middleton (30+ pick gap)
Thomas Robinson was supposed to be better then Draymond Green (30 picks gap)
Derrick Williams was supposed to be better then Jimmi Butler (27 picks gap)
Jimmer Fredette was supposed to be better then Chandler Parsons (25 picks gap)
Those are just from the draft 3-4 years ago, You can find a 1000 more examples, happens all the time.
If you want another optimistic angle - the fact that Justise biggest weakness is shooting, which is considered very correctable (unlike IQ, motor, physical tools, leadership, balls, vision, ballhandling) - makes him a good candidate to make a big jump and surprise some people.
