POLL - You be the GM (pick 3 players to fill out roster)

Post#1 » by gom » Tue Jul 11, 2017 3:44 pm

You can choose up to 3 to fill 13-14-15.

Nobody (save for later) - During the season a star may shake loose and though we could convince them to sign for Vet Min, the room-MLE is more than $2M more. Other teams will compete for these candidates too, and it's always good to have an edge. Another reason not to spend all our roster spaces is that a young project player like Matt Williams (or someone better) may appear. A 2-way contract turns into a 2-year minimum which only gives early bird rights. An MLE--even a partial mini-MLE where the MLE is divided between players--is a 4-year deal with full bird rights.

Udonis Haslem (PF/c) - Our team captain is rumored to want more court time. Does anyone embody more the soul of our team? Clearly, he is a Heat lifer, but will he ever play?

Ersan Ilyasova (PF) - Stretch 4 who is not known for defensive intensity, but can get pretty hot (at least when playing against us.) Our power rotation is full, but isn't there always room for another shooter?

Thabo Sefolosha (SG/SF) - A lock-down wing veteran of 10 seasons who is a headache to play against. Only makes 10 pts per 36 in his career, but his ORTG/DRTG is 106/103. That DRTG of 103 was only bested by Hassan Whiteside on last season's Heat team.

Shabazz Muhammad (SF) - Still only 24 with impressive athleticism, he scores by getting to the rim, because he cannot shoot well from outside. Also, his defense is not good either, but he has good footwork and 7 feet of wingspan, so can it be salvaged?

A.J. Hammons (C) - 7-0, 280 lbs, with 7-3 of wingspan and plenty of G-League experience after a successful college career. The big surprise for me is his shooting range. He hits 3s with good consistency. In college and g-league, he got blocks too. So why doesn't he take the next leap? He is almost 25 years old, so he should be making some noise, right? I think the problem is his motor and his tendency to disappear during games. To survive in Miami, he will very simply have to bring more intensity to his game.

Rajon Rondo (PG) - Is there any more divisive player? After Boston and the fallout from the Dallas episode, Rondo achieved success with Cousins in Sacramento, building a great-looking poorly-performing partnership. Then it was on to Chicago where he managed to make the Celtics shake until breaking down. This guy can pass the ball with fluid awareness. He also has good handles, an excellent bb iq, and an ego that would sell out AAA by itself. He's been knocked down a few pegs by now, though. Would he take a bench role perhaps?

Ty Lawson (PG) - Another reclamation project. Is apparently a young boozer, hooked to the juice, and doesn't have the self-awareness to call a cab. The atmosphere in Miami with abundant delectable voluptuous women and easy access to whatever substance you prefer doesn't seem like a good recipe, but the Heat is so serious and demanding that we may save not only his career but his life. Also, in case you are unaware, Ty played really pretty well for the Kings, at least in his distribution play, although his long-range shooting was abysmal.

Michael Beasley (F) - I added Beasley, so you wouldn't have to use other to suggest him. Beasley's season last year for the Bucks was 20/7/2 per 36 after 25/10/1.5 per 36 with the Rockets. His defense continues to be poor, mostly because he loses focus and doesn't play with enough intensity. I think that cannot be fixed, but maybe his bench scoring gives him a role anyhow?

Other (specify) - So many players are still available. If you have a favorite, make your case.

UD for the halftime speeches and other (Beno) as 3rd PG. For 3rd PG ideally I would prefer someone who we can develop in SXF and call up as needed but if there is no one out there then Beno is ideal. Other players on this list are pretty talented but probably too good to be sitting on the end of our bench and can be a distraction (Rondo, Ty, Beas. etc). We have a solid group of guys with good chemistry there is no need to mess it up imo.

UD, Hammons and Tyler Ennis. We don't have any true back up point guards on this roster. He's young so its worth a shot.

UD, Hammons, and Beno.

Keep the chemistry going with team favorite Beno.

UD sticks around to be our Heat culture mentor and keystone.

Hammond gets the nod in case someone goes down in our power rotation. Interesting player.

haslem should join the coach's staff that's my opinion. he has a lot of heart but his spot should be used for someone that can really play in case of multiple injuries.

I too would like Haslem joining the coaching staff, but i am realistic & know thats not happening this year.

So sign Haslem, keep Jamon in the D League, & then sign someone that can be cut if not working out, or if a big fish gets cut either around training camp, or around FEB.

UD cuz he brings that intensity
Hammons cuz another backup center is worth taking a chance on.
Thabo cuz you can never have too many multi-position defenders that shoot an occasional 3 coming off the bench.
OP for NBA FT record
