So good. I'll post more impressions tomorrow. Gotta sleep. zzzz
Caveat: All imho.
Putting up an early double-digit lead, we made the Mavericks play catch up the entire game. They were able to draw even multiple times, but we always had an answer, usually a 3 by Josh Richardson or Wayne Ellington. These two sharpshooters combined with Bam's excellent play inside, TJ's clutch spirited play, and Derrick Walton's good minutes from the bench to bring us victory. Olynyk had a promising first quarter only to be plagued by turnovers. Jordan Mickey had an unhappy game, always in foul trouble and badly handled the ball, along with being unable to score even easy shots. Haslem is a player-coach long past his prime. Without him, though, we don't have players.
The team is incredibly fatigued but high on their success. I don't think Dallas is a terrible team. They are not going to win many games, but they will compete almost every night. Dirk embodies this spirit, but their backcourt is also decent. Ferrell and Dennis Smith are both pretty good. I was disappointed we didn't see DSJ's athleticism. On this Dallas team, it's Ferrell that penetrates and Dennis that stays back to shoot. Sometimes he was left open because Dirk was the priority. That guy still plays.
As for the rest, Barnes is solid if unspectacular. His missed free throws at the end of the 4th quarter were a godsend. Wesley Matthews is a placeholder for someone like Michael Porter, Jr or Bagley that Dallas plans to draft.
Simply put: This isn't their year.
I was worried after we lost Dion, but we were very well coached. The rotations looked fine for me with Walton as the backup guard. The kid really stepped up. I think we'll see him again tonight with Waiters out.
The name of the game, though, for me is Wayne Ellington. His 3-point shooting was havoc-inducing to Dallas's defense, freeing the other players like Richardson and TJ to ice the Mavs and then opening up space inside for Bam to do his magic. I don't think this is sustainable, but last night, we tore their limbs off and then operated on the patient with a sledgehammer.
Pretty damn cool.

I remember 11-30 with these guys. ^
