Riley has made some weird moves ever since the big 3 era, re-signing TJ with that poison pill contract being one of them. I’m really not sure the logic in keeping TJ with that contract.
Maybe he thought TJ could become a better player than he is? Maybe he figured the team would be over the cap this year anyway, so might as well re-sign talent instead of letting it walk away for nothing. Regardless, I’m wondering whether after the deal happened, if the Heat tried to trade him at all. If they didn’t try to trade him, I would really like to understand why.
