Pat Riley is still setting up free agent meetings for his trip to L.A. this week, selling promise of rings over Miami's shrinking cap space.

Ethan translation: Pat is going after Ariza since he is out there in LA right now..

Technically we have no wings

Cole and Napier only real people on the roster, right?

Ariza is 3 and D guy, replacement for Shane, versatile

We really fell off when Shane declined.

Lol yeah just heard it on the ticket

That rings thing is not gonna work man... Not with this free agency and lack of public commitment from the big 3

Well the Big three may sign before Ariza.

Teams and agents agree: Outside of role players now, the market is frozen until Miami's free agents and Carmelo Anthony make decisions."

Then again Ariza is a role player.

Two for one. How badass would it be if he brought Lebron to those meetings. Doubtful but badass.

The thing is Ariza is more of a 2/3 defender. I dont see him defending or wanting to defend 4 at all. We do need a defender because i dont want Lebron to not only run the offense, rebound and like last season guard opposing teams best players. No wonder the man gets tired

Hopefully Gasol is in LA as well and the Don can meet with both he and Ariza

Either one of those guys and we're automatically better than last year. Preferably Gasol of course though Ariza is the perfect Battier replacement and he's better at this point than Battier was when we first got him. Ariza is what Dorell Wright should have maxed out into.

Also Orlando and Indiana. What are these teams thinking giving big $ deals to the likes of Ben Gordon and CJ Miles during the first 2 days of FA?

Gasol is our best chance

Ariza for the right price will go back to Washington in a heart beat and he has a ring already

Gasol has rings too but wants to continually win, but wants money too

And I knew PG wasn't a priority mang... Ethan just said so, but so many ppl here was convinced Riley was going after him lol

Ariza makes sense in a lot of ways.

1 - our biggest problem in the later rounds of the playoffs was perimeter D, and he upgrades that
2 - he can slide into Battier's role skillset wise -- great corner 3 shooter, heady defender -- but is more athletic
3 - he's the right age and has won a title before (playing well in the playoff run at that) so you're not worried about how he'll perform in those situations

Ariza doesn't make sense in a lot of ways

1 - he doesn't really improve our guard play
2 - he's not as strong as Battier, so you might be concerned about having him guard 4s
3 - there has to be some worry that he was a contract year performer who could come back down to earth
4 - he doesn't fix our rebounding problems

Now, Miami knows a lot more about Wade's and Oden's knees than we do, and we don't know how high they are on Napier. So they might not be as concerned with (1) & (2) as we are. After all, if they like Napier a lot and think Wade's knees will be better next season (no Ossatron this season), maybe (1) isn't as big a concern. And if Oden is starting again (like he was before he injured his back) with Bird backing him up, there's a lot less need for Ariza to guard 4s (taking care of concern 2). And if we are playing bigger with Oden/Bird next season, (4) might be a non-issue

I like Gasol, but I feel like he hasn't really been trying the last couple of years. I know a lot of it has to do with D'Antoni, but do you guys really feel like he'd make a huge difference in Miami?

Riley needs to make his pursuits of Deng and Ariza quick - don't let them waste your time. If they want money and thats all they care about - keep it moving.

Ethan is on 790 calling the same names I've called since the finals ended, Morrow and Aminu (defenses purposes but cant shoot - you cant get everything) smh - I could tell what we would likely end up with a long time ago..

Get a wing defender, a shooter and get Hawes/Blatche/Pau

Get Hill - get him, stop messing around get this guy

Despite all of Gasols struggles and dantoni not even wanting him on the floor and making him shoot 3s... He still average 9 rebounds and had one of his best rebounding seasons per 36. He was a 17/9 guy and a person like that in our front court with the big 3 would be great. Not the same defensively but he would help rebounding big time

Gasol fits but Ariza fits even more, but it will be tough

This is why I believe they are open to bringing Chalmers back. Miami can always play two PG lineup with Napier/Chalmers or Cole/Chalmers if Wade is out. Spo seemed comfortable with the dual PG lineup last season.

Just don't see that many difference makers left in free agency. The team could actually be worse next year even if Lebron comes back.

Hawes and Deng, maybe? All that cap space freed up for thaaat?

I don't care where Melo go, as long it's not to Chicago.
Thanks for all the great memories, LeBron! The show must go on! #Heatnation

It's also possible Miami thinks Ariza could start at the 3/4 like Battier did next to Lebron, but Battier barely held up doing that and Ariza seems way too skinny for that to be a realistic option imo.
