I don't like that trade. It helps out Indy way too much.

Assuming Marion opts in for next year: Trade JWill, Ricky Davis (and their expiring contracts) to NJ for Jason Kidd. The Nets are supposedly looking for expiring contracts for Kidd and aren't getting offers.

Then trade Zo, Dorell, Quinn (and their expiring deals) and Smush Parker to Sacramento for Ron Artest.

At the 1-4 positions, that gives you:

PG - Kidd, Banks
SG - Wade, Cook
SF- Artest, Marion
PF - Marion, Haslem

That group of Kidd, Artest and Marion are elite defenders and Wade is capable, when he applies himself to it, of being an impact defender too. Kidd is clearly the best rebounding PG in the NBA. At SF, Marion is the best rebounding SF in the NBA. Wade is among the better rebounding SGs in the league. And when Artest is at SF and Marion at PF, you have tremendous defensive and rebounding versatility. In addition, that group of players has great potential as a running team, with Kidd at the helm and Wade, Marion and Artest filling the lanes. You could have a Suns style offensive but with old-school Heat style defense and great rebounding to ignite the break.

With a group like that, you can get away with Blount's defense and rebounding inadequacies. Blount does have some nice offensive skills. And none of this includes the effect of that lottery pick. Adding a Rose, Beasley, Mayo etc. to that mix would be beautiful.

With the defensive core that kind of lineup would create, Zo might well be intrigued about coming back to a team with the kind of physical defensive demeanor that Zo so relished in the mid-late 90s.

Yes, that's a lot of cash and would probably put us into luxury tax territory next year, but the huge Kidd and Marion contracts would come off the books after next season, to either be replaced by more palatable deals for them or with top FAs.

There's no question this would be a huge "experiment" and it could fail, but it's a gamble on greatness for a team that now has the worst record in the NBA and, if it is a complete failure, you clear the Kidd and Marion contracts from the books and start over in a year with Wade, the 2008 lottery pick and an absurd amount of cap space.

Bucks fan here:
You guys should do this move

Bucks Trade:
Michael Redd (miami)
Desmond Mason (miami)
Dan Gadzuric (miami)

Bucks Recieve:
Mike Miller
Dorrel Wright
Jason Williams

Memphis Trades:
Mike Miller (milwaukee)

Memphis Recieves
Ricky Davis

Miami Trades:
Jason Williams (milwaukee)
Ricky Davis (Memphis)
Dorel Wright (milwaukee)

Miami Recieves:
Michael Redd
Dan Gadzuric
Dez Mason

This trade benefits all sides. The heat can have a very formidable big three (marion/wade/redd) and add an athletic center to run up and down the court (gadz)

Memphis gets another expiring deal, and if they really want something else, maybe the bucks could throw in CV.

From there, the bucks get a cheaper michael redd in miller and a possible solution for their sf spot in dorel wright.

Bucks New Lineup:

Mo Williams/Ivey
Mike Miller/Charlie Bell
Dorel Wright/Bobby Simmons
CV/Yi
Bogut/Voskuhl

Depending on how wright plays, you could also start bell or ivey in the backcourt and shift miller to the front court. But this trade allows the bucks to drastically reduce salaries with miller instead of redd, and dumping gadz contract. I'd think the bucks would be best off just cutting jason williams as soon as the trade goes down.

Now the heats lineup (pre lotto pick)

Dwayne Wade/
Michael Redd/Dez Mason
Shawn Marion/Dez Mason
Haslem/
Gadz/Mark Blount

The Rockets end up trading Battier + scrubs for Marion. If the Heat wanted odom we'd just make the Lakers even more unbeatable and trade with them directly. They'd at least throw in something better than Mike James, who we have already dumped from our team in the past. The guy hasn't been able to get playing time over Rafer Alston, so how could he help us.

He has a bum wheel, perfect excuse to trade for him and have him sit out the season to make sure it gets well, not hampering the lotto pick. Let him come back in October fully healthy. He's 29 years old and after this year has two years left on his contract.

Im with you in that minority. J Oneal can probably be had for a discount. A Wade/Marion/ONeal trio would be very good and gives you great court balance. Throw in the #1 pick and some complementary pieces and that's a pretty solid team.'

Two doubts is if Arison would do it and if we have enough to get him without tossing in our pick, which I would be totally against.

How bad does Philly want to dump Miller and Dalembert? How bad does Arison want to trim salary?

Williams, Davis, Smush would be a huge salary dump for Philly. Philly unlike Miami has no superstar so they desperately need the capspace.

You guys on the other hand are sitting pretty with Wade, Marion, and the pick. I just hope Riley and Arison want to win immediately next season. No reason to waste Wade's years like LA did the last two with Kobe.

Miller, Banks
Wade, Cook
Marion, Wright
Beasley, Haslem
Dalembert, Blount

They need to show Wade they are serious about keeping him in Miami.

Well, I think we will resign Marion, but I think the draft will determine what we do otherwise.

If we draft a center-type, we will probably not sign a backup center to Blount. If we sign Rose or Beasley, they'll probably resign Blount and sign a defensive-minded backup center.

My dream scenario:
Draft Rose
Resign Marion
Sign Diop to MLE
Sign Pietrus

PG: Banks / Rose
SG: Wade / Cook
SF: Wright / Pietrus / Marion
PF: Marion / Haslem
C: Blount / Diop

G - Banks
G - Wade
F - Wright
F - Marion
C - Johnson

Run with that line-up for the rest of the year when AJ gets back.

I want to see what Banks, Wright, & AJ can do.

With Marion now in the picture, what we need is a solid 3 point shooting, defensive minded PG and a dominating big man. The PG we can acquire in FA. The big man...I dunno if there are any dominating big men in the draft this year, but our draft pick could always make for great trade bait. Heck, Blount is even becoming good trade bait too.

I am all for getting Bibby from Sacramento because he can run and also shoot very well in a lineup with Wade and Marion. The other plus about Bibby is he comes off the books in 09.

And by the way Ricky Davis is just so awful on defense. Get him off this team pronto!

Someone that I spoke to at the game today-- thought that the Heat would get Marion to opt out then resign him to an extension that pays well over the years but gives us enough cap room to sign Elton in the summer.. How would that work?

I'm fine with that if we pick outside the top 5 and bag a post player in draft.

sounds similar to the year we signed Juwan Howard and it leaked that Zo got his extension done BEFORE Juwan signed......

if it is even possible, and I dont know that it is, (I am good with the cap and its restraints but I am no capologist), I think it would all hinge on Miami's FO being willing to pay the luxury tax to sign a big FA and then Go over the cap to resign their own FA in Matrix.

Can Haslem play C in a small-ball team?

Wade-Wright-Marion-Haslem running will be a sight to see

I wonder if the Heat could try to get a descent Center, such as Brad Miller. The guy after this year has two years in his contract, will come out to around 24 million. So around 12 million per year.

Trade Blount and Ricky for the guy. Ofcourse I doubt it could happen, but that will fix us with a descent Center.

Then the draft get a point guard.

Trade J Will and Smush for a shooter, or a taller defender in SG.

Rose
Wade
Marion
Haslem
Brad Miller

Keep Banks, Dorrel, Quinn and try to figure out the rest.

I would be even use D Cook as trade bait, he is a little to undersized, and guy doesn't like to play defense.
