Yeah something seems off in this story. He wanted 15, we offered 13, he signed for 8. Knowing how bad our tax issue is, and how much it would have costed to sign him for 13 mil factoring the tax and the second apron, something doesn't add up but that doesn't really matter any more.

It would have been 4 years added on to his upcoming season at 7 million. Heat wouldve stayed just below the 2nd apron.

Yeah then Duncan would have come off next year alleviating the cap. They had a plan

Yes, but Riley needs to learn to trade these guys before they hit free agency.

It should go like this :

Player enters final year of contract --> Begin negotiations for extension --> If finances don't make sense for us, trade him immediately to get something for him. Preferably a 1st round pick if you can find one.

Never let them hit free agency

They’ll find one from the scrap heap and make him into a 12 million dollar player next year

Work out the contracts as extensions in their final year. If no deal can be agreed upon and the finances don't make sense for us, then trade them before their final season is over and get something back.

Maybe the team is more loyal to the players than players are to the team, lol

Miami loves their players too much which is why we are always in this mess with contracts.

Why the bad blood from Martin, not trusting the Heat FO? Or being suspicious of Heat FO?

or did Caleb really let his agent get in his head???

Suspicious of what? Didn't the Heat sign him off the street and develop him into a competent NBA role player?

Exactly, that's what I'm asking.

Why was "Martin's camp" accusing the Heat of trying to finesse him?

I'm asking why the bad blood and suspicion from Martin towards Heat. Very strange.

There's nothing to suspect. These are guaranteed dollars, not promises to pay later.

Maybe it's a double whammy of:

His agent seeing other miami free agents like Gabe Nunn Strus getting paid and thinking caleb will be next.

Rest of league seeing Miami free agents get paid and then not perform to those contracts so now the appeal is less and avoiding them.

Team coming off ECF and not being able to predict health is what kept them from dealing him for a lowly 2nd rd pick. They had hopes of trying for another miracle run but Duncan’s back, Butler knee, and Rozier neck derailed that. Imagine if they dealt Strus and Vincent the year before? No finals atleast we recouped a 2nd for Strus.

PJ Tucker left too philly and so did Lowry. It’s not really a big deal. I actually think he’ll fall in line and suck. He developed that hitch again and was a habitual line stepper.

Yup, take out that brief playoff showing, especially the Celtics series, he is just an ok player, dime a dozen. I trust our development program to produce another one from the undrafted bin.

So we need a perimeter defender off the bench. Someone rugged, if they can facilitate and throw lobs thats a plus. If only such a player was available

Yep, if Martin was traded last summer for a 2nd round pick or two, the fans wouldve cried about that as well. See my last post about the pitchforks being out.

Nunn didn't really get paid. He got 2 years at ~ $5 million per.
