In Riley we trust!!

Post#1041 » by CeCeySay » Sun Jul 8, 2012 4:07 am

Listen, I know we could use a C, or a decent 7 footer, but there isn't one like that, & we got the next best thing.....a player that can allow wade to rest more while hit 3's at a better rate than anybody we've had so far. Even if Ray doesn't have a productive reg season, u wouldn't be jumping for joy if he had a similar season to Battier (sub par reg season, great playoffs)? The only 2 teams that worry me with their height is LA (which we would only see in the finals if either one of us make it), & the Pacers (which still pose a threat). Other than that, we can run our small lineup. And maybe Chi, which is a beast in the boards. But I don't know how much u guys should be happy that Ray is with us now. The man shows up to the gym 3 hours before a game, who doesn't want a player like that. (over confident posters that talk about 73 win seasons, please don't reply)

Yep.

I wanted Camby but not if it means giving up valuable assets for a 38 yr old Camby.

Not to mention, the difference between the 3.1mil he wanted and his vet min of 1.4mil is 1.7mil. Add on to that no state tax in Florida... even less.

He's worried about 1.6mil ? that's so much to him at this point in his career that he wants to sit on the bench for the Knicks instead of start for the Heat? hahahaha.

Thanks Camby, but no thanks. We good, bro.

Completely agree. I really wanted Camby but it seems like he's not the kind of player we want down here anyway. Let him go play backup to a 1st round exit team instead of playing starting C for the Miami freaking Heat!!

Enjoy.

Let's see...

NY can work out a S&T to get Camby the $$$ he wants, however, they aren't exactly the strongest contender out there, and he would not be starting.

In Miami, we would probably have to sign him to the min since Morey's S&T request is to steep. However, he'll start.

Camby said that championship contention, a starting job, and money meant the most to him. Each team he could get two out of the three (if you count the Knicks as contenders).

It will come down to money. We will see if he takes Money over his Championship contention and starting requests...

They of all people should know ray allen doesn't even need the ball in his hands to contribute

But go ahead, rondo. Forget about taking a breather when wade goes to the bench, just stay in and chase allen around screens

More salt.

My biggest problem is... this Miami team wouldn't have been together without inside knowledge that James and Bosh were coming. Wade's contract was expiring and the only other 'talent' on the team was Beasley. Without 'inside' information, Riley would have done EXACTLY what Cleveland did. Take on contracts with talent to entice Wade to stay. THUS, eliminating any cap room to sign the two chumps.

Do you really think Riley would take a chance of losing Wade on a 'maybe' we can sign two elite FAs?!?! It is an example of the crummy, yellow belly, disgusting way they do things down there in South Beach. (ahh, Johnny, I miss him).

This is the organization that Ray Allen has tied himself to. No class. If the league went after Miami the way they should have... Ray wouldn't have this scumbag of a team to sign with. Anywhere else. No respect.

Unfortunately, I am sure Ainge and the rest of the Celtics organization can't freely talk about their disappointment with Ray Ray.

I love how fans from other boards are uniting as one to talk to them over the Boston board-- scorned Suns fans, NY fans just wanting to bash us, etc.

Lol, **** those other guys who are just looking for an opportunity to bash our team in the process.

Boston fans can be mad. Knicks fans, Sunsa fans, Lakers fans (especially when Nash pretty much did the same team) have absolutely no **** right to spew the bull they are spewing. Ray Allen did not play for their team. Stop trying to relate to them in order to get that extra post calling the Heat scummy in. Bunch of tools those other fans are.

I tried to post on the Knicks forum today to talk Camby in their camby thread, completely innocent and not trolling, and immediately a Knicks mod posted in that thread to leave or get suspended, because I need to go back to my board and there is no reason for me to be there talking about Camby.....

yes, salty.

Good, we want that, Allen is the one who's going to be creating motion, running off screens and in circles around the court. Get that Rondo guy tired chasing him around.

Our Ray Ray is going to be four years older than that version  Would be sweet if we could get one of those out of him in the playoffs though.

Um, Ray's got plenty in the tank but he doesn't have THAT anymore.

We might see a couple 20 point games but yeah.. not that, and especially not some of those offensive possessions, he can't create for himself like he used to, but a shooter will never lose his shot, and he can run off screens, like Reggie Miller would do.

Heat president Pat Riley’s summertime mission to further strengthen the NBA champion already has landed him one future Hall of Famer in Ray Allen, could land him a useful rotation piece in Rashard Lewis, but might fall short in the pursuit of center Marcus Camby, who postponed Saturday’s scheduled visit with Heat officials in Miami.

Regardless, this will be a successful offseason simply with the addition of Allen, one of the elite long-range shooters of his generation.

“Great pickup for the Heat,” former Magic and Heat coach Stan Van Gundy said in a text message Saturday. “Ray Allen is a great veteran player. Can play a Mike Miller role as a shooter. Mike has more size and is a great rebounder, but Ray is a great shooter and has stayed healthy, which Mike can’t do.”

Van Gundy’s brother, ABC lead analyst Jeff Van Gundy, also praised the move, though he added, “As you get up to that age, you don’t know how health is going to treat you. I was surprised. I thought he would go back to Boston, to stick with what they had started.”

Allen, who turns 37 on July 20, underwent surgery June 14 to remove bone spurs in his right ankle but is expected to be fine for the season.

“I coached Ray, and you’re talking about one of the fittest players to ever play,” NBA TV analyst Sam Mitchell said. “He can run all day. I can see him playing even better than last year. He’s going to get even more wide open looks now.”

Allen’s three-point accuracy last season (45.3 percent) was the best of his career — a product not only of his natural gifts, but his impeccable work ethic. Allen, whose 2,718 three-pointers are the most in NBA history, typically arrives at arenas five hours before games to hoist jumper after jumper.

“Ray Allen is the ultimate professional, a great player and a great team player,” ESPN Radio analyst and Hall of Fame coach Jack Ramsay said. “He’s great moving without the ball, and he knows how to get open.”

The Heat can’t discuss Allen until he is allowed to sign Wednesday. But coach Erik Spoelstra is expected to use Allen in a guard rotation with starters Dwyane Wade and Mario Chalmers.

The Heat can pair Wade and Allen together for significant minutes because Wade has experience at point guard, and “Ray is very good with the ball” also, Ramsay said. “There were times he served as the point guard.”

James and Wade were thrilled with the pickup. “Heat Nation continues to grow,” Wade tweeted Friday night.

James sent out two tweets — one showing Allen, through Photoshop, in a Heat uniform and another that read: “Heat Nation, please welcome our newest teammate, Ray Allen.”

Earlier in the day, James told reporters covering the United States Olympic team practice in Las Vegas: “Who wouldn’t want a dead-eye shooter like that, a complete professional and a champion?”

Does Allen’s acquisition significantly help Miami’s chances of winning multiple titles? “I already thought that,” Jeff Van Gundy said. “You admire their aggressiveness.”

Camby, meanwhile, has told teams he is not interested in accepting the $1.3 million veteran’s minimum. In any potential sign-and-trade with the Heat, the Rockets are believed to like Norris Cole, but it’s unclear if Miami would give him up. Joel Anthony, Dexter Pittman and a future No. 1 pick also could be used in a deal.

But the Rockets reportedly prefer what the Knicks have to offer, potentially including Josh Harrellson, Toney Douglas and Dan Gadzuric’s nonguaranteed contract.

As for Lewis, he is scheduled to visit the Heat on Sunday and also has drawn interest from the Spurs, Knicks and Hawks. Lewis, 32, is due $13.7 million in a buyout from New Orleans next season and might be receptive to taking the $1.3 million minimum.
