32 points vs the Knicks in the 2011 playoffs. 8-)

Heat have a elite scorer coming off the bench. This guy is not just a spot up shooter.

Lewis would be a real nice addition. A big man who can also spread the floor, and hit some shots. I hope he signs here quickl so Riley can focus on getting a nice center on the team.

The deal with Rashard Lewis should lead to a trade. I dont think the Heat would add him without the intention to be a big part of the rotation. He would make the PF and SF position really deep, so someone would be traded to solidfy the Center position. So if we sign Lewis look for Anthony and Pittman to be traded for another big if its not Camby. Maybe just maybe we are still in the Kaman running.

Sign Lewis. Sign Greg Oden. I mean if Eddy Curry could sit and rot on bench so can Greg Oden except he actually may provide something IF... gulp... healthy.

What I also love about signing Ray is that he can tell us some of Docs plays so our offense is isn't always stagnant. And him running through screens all the time will do wonders for our offense. What do you guys think?

Couldnt hurt, but at the end of the day these teams know each other so well that they both know what each other are going to run. Its all about the execution.

This is mostly why I like him on the Heat... yeah he will get hot for us. But now we don't freakin' have to lose this guy on screens anymore, forget about him, yelling at our team saying "HOW DO YOU LEAVE THE BEST SHOOTER IN THE NBA WIDE OPEN?!", OR Wade not having to chase the crap out of him anymore.

Ray to me was the scariest of their Big 3. Rondo we would have more control of if we actually had a quick guard infront of him, but that's another story.

I don't think that's necessarily true at all. I don't know why so many of you are hung up on playing a traditional lineup, when we've often been at our best playing non-traditional lineups. I just don't think that's a huge priority. We are talking about signing a guy who likely at best will be a placeholder starter in the regular season and then a situational player in the playoffs. At best. Because nobody we can sign or trade for will be better than Bosh can be at C, and nobody we can sign or trade for will be better than Lebron can be at PF (in stretches).

And I'm not just making this stuff up, the Decisionmaker himself has said as much:

It was Battier's role in the Heat's conversion to a small-ball style in the playoffs that helped pave the way to the championship. Riley said the Heat's goal is to add another player or two in free agency who can bring the same level of experience, smarts and versatility Battier brought -- especially with the team committed to its new style.

"Small ball is becoming a big thing in the league, and I think it's going to become even bigger," Riley said. "Whatever it takes to win. If Chris [Bosh] is playing the center, we have a legitimate power forward, and that's LeBron James, who is not a power forward. But he's 6-[foot]-8, 260 [pounds] and he gets 15 rebounds a game when he plays the 4-spot."

So even if straying from their traditional positions gives the Heat their best chance to keep winning titles, Riley said he believes James and Bosh should embrace it.

"If I have that kind of versatility, that all I have to do is move around a little bit to help the team and it equals a championship, I'm asking to play there a lot more," Riley said. "Now, I haven't talked to them like this, so I don't know how they feel about it. But we have one of the most versatile teams in the league and two of the most versatile players in Chris and LeBron that can help us do that."

Cant remember where I read it online but they said that Ray Ray's highest shooting % was at the AAA, so thats always a positive. But the added bonus of Wade not chasing him around and draining all of his energy is such an added bonus.

Well, we got Allen, which IMO makes this offseason a success. If we get even 1 of Lewis/Camby, I'd be ecstatic.

It could still happen. Allen: in the bag. Lewis: seems likely. Camby - probably not coming here, so let's get Oden instead!

Just make me GM.

Agree with Mopper on everything he said about versatility, I remember noticing these things going back to last season, and really the team did as well... the 1 thing we didn't have was a good/versatile enough 3 to allow LeBron to shift to the 4 more often, so we usually closed with Bosh/Haslem, leading to less spacing on offense.

Enter Battier, and he fits like a glove because not only does he improve the spacing on offense, he can bang down low just enough that LeBron doesn't feel like a 4 when he's on the court with Shane, even though he really kind of is.

The nice thing about Lewis is he could do the same sort of thing, be a pseudo 4 next to LeBron but give us the spacing of a 3, allowing LeBron more room to operate down low, and opening up driving lanes for both James and Wade.

Oden is done, why waste a roster spot for him.

Get a young 7 footer like Krylylo Fesenko for the minimum. He can actually get on the court at any moment if we ever need him.

I don't see the point in a guy like Fesenko. Even if everything goes perfect for him, he's still not an impact player. I like to use those end-of-the-bench spots for someone you think has at least some upside.

I don't expect Oden to ever play 35 mpg for a full season, but if he can be like Bill Walton in the 80s, and get healthy enough to be a 15-20 mpg backup, we'd be ridiculous. Obviously the Heat med staff would have to think that's at least possible for the signing to make sense, though.

Like signing Shane last offseason made it a success, signing Ray has made this one a success. So far we have:

Chalmers/Cole
Wade/Allen/Miller
Battier/Shard/Jones
James/Haslem/Varnado
Bosh/Pittman/Joel

*Small chance Miller and/or Jones retire, and Pittman was a verbal guarantee from Riley

That's 3 rotation slots open. Shard probably gets one and Varnado might get one. That would leave the last slot for one of the Summer League guys. I really hope Hamilton can impress. I like his shooting. PEACE.

Ira put up on Sulia:
@IraHeatBeat: Don't discount the Heat no longer having a mid-level. There still could be a sign-and-trade for Ray Allen, with ... http://t.co/N1wJj4Ng

No say Boston would help us out by S&T for Allen to allow us to use our mini-MLE on Camby. No way in hell would they do that. And ewww, none of our players want to be traded to the Celtics.

Also, I don't think Ira knows how this stuff works.

A TPE comes when a team below the cap trades with a team above the cap. The team below the cap acquires the incoming player, but, because they're below the cap, they don't have to send out matching salary, or any salary at all (if they're far enough below the cap to simply absorb the contract). So, you have a team below the cap sending out draft picks, and receiving a player. What the team trading out the player gets is a Traded Player Exception. Its like extra cap space for the value they sent out and didn't get any $ back in return.

That situation doesn't exist here, because we aren't below the cap. So I don't know what he's talking about. Boston all isn't below the cap, so how could anyone create a TPE?

edit: oh, I get it. So we trade someone else to some other team below the cap, get a pick and a TPE back, and then forward that pick & TPE to Boston for Ray?

The likelihood of that happening is roughly 0.

OT, but last night, I downloaded a pretty good roster and assigned Rashard to Miami.

It was awesome.

Mario/Cole
Wade/Allen/Miller/Harris
Bron/Battier/Jones
Bosh/Rashard
UD/Joel/Pittman/Hamilton

The bench was awesome. Rashard and Allen were letting it fly. The line up of Wade/Allen/Battier/James/Bosh was really good offensively and defensively.
