I'd hope Strus and Robinson are working on fixing their 3pt shots in hopes of actually helping Miami this year.

Would Towns get on Jimmy for hibernating? I don't blame Jimbo for saving his energy but now is the time to push weight or go home. If we do indeed die and look cooked doing it, all cards are on the table for a refresh as usual.

I'd rather live in the moment and win now. If these boys are cooked and have nothing left thats the end of that.

We had our chances with Jimmy.

I'm afraid that three he took and bricked (shocker right?) down by two against the Celtics was it tho.

I’m just thankful Wade was able to get him to Miami, we’ve had some good years here despite the lack of talent surrounding him and Bam, although 2020 was a far better supporting cast

I can understand re-signing Bam and Herro, but they need to stop signing these unlnown players that thrive in the Heat system to big deals (Whiteside, TJ, DROB, and probably soon Strus/Vincent). Trade em while you can, trust the scouting team to find another role player.

I agree, unless you’re keeping Gabe and Strus on Martin deals they should’ve been traded at the deadline for multiple 2nds at worst. Teams were reaching out trying to get Strus

Why should the team be so great when that's your roster? we overachieved big time last season, this season is a much more accurate picture of the talent level on the roster

This franchise has gotten addicted to filling the roster with guys we found at the Y and polished up ... and Spo somehow making it work. That is not a sustainable approach to winning.
Really? We've been doing it since Riley got here. Voshon Lenard and Ike Austin being two of the first.

Those early Riley teams got past the first round of the playoffs twice in eight years.

No.
Since LeBron left this FO has been bad on player evaluations with handing out contracts and not handing out contracts to players like a franchise guy like D.Wade or a starting PF for a finals team in Crowder who was only asking for 10 mil a year.

The overpaying of T.Johnson, J.Johnson, Waiters, Whiteside, Robinson and quite possibly Herro.

This team allowed a great 2nd half to dictate how they felt about marginal talent which gave Miami a few of those bad contracts before Butler got here.

I still can't believe D.Wade left Miami because they refused to pay him.

The FO went all in on the 2021 plan, didn't trade for CP3 on a discount because he wouldn't opt out early of his PO in 2021, then let a starting PF of a finals team walk when all he was asking for was 10 mil a year and what did the FO eventually do, they had to placate their star who I'm sure they sold the 2021 plan (which would part of the explanation to let him know why they let his starting PF in the finals walk for nothing) by overpaying Lowry.

Holy )(#$, this team's roster was so screwed up before Butler that Spoelstra was trying to make Winslow a starting PG, J.Richardson was being pushed as a scorer and had the most FGA for Miami in 2018-2019.

If Butler hadn't forced his way to Miami (D.Wade sold him on how they were run, so some credit to the FO/coaching staff) there's no telling how bad this franchise would currently be, because of the FO personal decisions Miami was trying to make Winslow a PG.

Miami got a gift with Butler forcing his way to Miami, he's shown the ability to be a dominate player in the finals and this FO has done basically NOTHING to add to the team other than trade for expiring vets which still blows my mind.

This hasn't been a recent issue with the FO VASTLY overpaying players, it's been happening for 7+ years. They sent assets out multiple years in a row to get rid of KZ and now Dedmon AND STILL they are in deep )#($( with the tax next year on a near .500 team against the max. The FO has massively screwed up this roster with only 2 very good talents and one player with potential. Robinson 90 million dollars who can't play defense, dribble, pass, attack at an average NBA level? They could have gotten a player for example like M.Monk for 5-10 mil a year and had a much better player on the roster!

I don’t too much agree with you, but on this post you were spot on. I know there is a lot of revisionist history and looking back with 20/20 vision talk that happens on here, but this isn’t it. Many of these moves were called out as wrong as they were happening.

Riley being called out is past due, although I hate that it’s bums like Bogut doing it. The roster has been mismanaged for years, and it’s ok to hold them accountable.

In many ways we are doing our team an actual disservice by allowing this to go on and continuing to support them, while not being critical of the FO. If you think we’re bad with our complaints, any other team would be getting bashed 10x worse for trotting out g league players year after year. Especially when you have a star like Jimmy who took you to the finals. At least 25 other franchises would kill for the opportunity and we’ve taken it for granted every year since 2020. I mean, our biggest pulls have been Lowry and PJ Tucker. Celtics went out and got Brogdon after losing in the finals. The neglect is disgusting really, and if we’re honest we all should be able to agree on that, Heat fans, player fans, and paid street teams alike.

Lowry was considered a big win at the time of the signing so there goes that narrative lol

We also were able to sign Butler to an extension halfway through the deal...

We kneecapped ourselves with bad contracts and a lack of tradable assets at the same time. It's hard to make moves when it takes picks to acquire stars and it takes picks to move your own bad contracts ... and you're short on picks because you've already traded a bunch of them away.

I'm not sure the talent can be improved much for next season either.

The big issue with the Lowry deal was the years. You have to be stingy with the years once a player hits his mid 30s because they can go downhill real fast. Obviously it becomes an even bigger deal the higher the money goes. A two year deal would have made him much easier to trade this season.

Careful using facts in this debate contract. He’s gonna start asking you for playoff records of all other teams with undrafted players and then when you say no he will use it to claim you have an agenda and your position is wrong.

On another note, I can’t believe those teams only got out of the first round twice. Frickin Knicks
At least the Heat got the last laugh with 3 championships.

No, he was just the best of a bad class of free agents which is why it drove his price up. Once Giannis mentioned he was signing his supermax (which was late in free agency which screwed Miami) the Heat extended Bam and threw away a lot of their cap space for the upcoming summer. Miami could have given Bam the max the next year except until he signed that contract his cap hold would have been around 15 million less which would have given Miami much more cap space and Miami wouldn't have had to throw in a recently drafted Precious to make the S&T. Yes... extending Bam a year early cost Miami a recent 1st round picked player... an asset. So, toss in giving up Precious into that pile of assets moved because of bad FO contracts, not giving Bam the max was bad, it was just giving it to him before they had to.

Lowry had more guarantied money than Chris Paul. Let that one sink in. Then we extended Butler after he had an entire series playing like its game 6 of the NBA Finals, thats no a complement. Thats a whole whopping 10 points. The only player with a worse performance that playoffs was Ben Simmons.

Don’t forget about DROB being re-signed that offseason. He had a sub-par year and worse playoff series. The criticism of that signing was not a Monday morning QB critique, it was lambasted before it even happened by many here.

Let's get a real shooter like Buddy Hield this summer.. good complement to Bam and Jimmy

Return to Miami Heat
