Deserved the MVP that year though, imo. Russ was something else that year, an outlier year for him in terms of his outside shot and clutch performances. Advanced metrics all favored him over Harden too.

Probably not, but I think it'd be another unfair case of not giving the award to the actual most valuable player. That was one of the worst constructed teams I've ever seen, three non-shooters were starting next to Russ (Adams, Sabonis, Roberson) and the other one was Oladipo who wasn't nearly as good and was an inconsistent shooter back then. Miracle that he made them into an above average offense.

Teams below them in the standings weren't that hot, wouldn't call it a miracle

I'd call it a miracle, having seen more OKC games that season than Heat games. OKC was by far the worst offensive team in the league when Russ was on the bench. The +/- was something obscene, like +25 or something.

Dipo thing is a misconception. Dipo wasn't that good in Orlando either. He dropped a ton of weight and improved his shot after he got traded to Indiana. Even credited Russ for giving him inspiration with his work ethic, but it got bogged down in the Russ holds teammates back talk.

I feel as though we are going to develop the young guys more and wait for 2021. Keep in mind their values can also increase and then be traded (ala Richardson).

Well, they traded a fairly equal horrible contract for it, and in the process got two 1st round picks and two pick swaps. Sounds like they came out aces to me.

The Heat fans bashing him wouldn't be able to put together a single title contender in the time Riley's been a GM.

Chris Paul's contract is one year less too. I like the deal for OKC. I like it for Houston too, because Harden & Chris Paul were not getting along.
